Yeah, I think you’re right. And on a paper, with them 2, Cosgrove, Watters, Jalo and Marsh, you’d think we’d have enough up front to cement in the top 6……
Would you? Watters has always been crap. I was amazed when we signed him after his disastrous loan. Marsh and jalo are inexperienced kids. Cosgrove has had one good season in his career. DKD isn't a striker and neither is Humphreys, we are simply being gaslighted into believing they are because they are having to play there due to piss poor recruitment.
Here's the interview in its entirety, we're going round in circles here splitting hairs. He's trying to be as diplomatic as possible in a difficult situation, does it really need the bones picking off it that much? Surely not that big a deal he's a head coach of club they all tall *hit to a degree from Pep to Darrell, but the reality of the situation is he's just 1 cog in the wheel and has to put a brave face on things and not dig the owners out in public if he wants to stay employed. Simples
We are going round in circles pal, all I am trying to say is he shouldn’t praise the work in window, he his surely smart enough to divert a question to avoid criticising, he used to palm off interviewers asking questions about injuries at one bit so he does know how. Anyway I sincerely hope we’ve been extremely lucky this transfer and I will gladly eat my words on if the signings take us into the playoffs
Never say never they may be world beaters, but my hunch is we just won't have strengthened enough mate in comparison to the top 6, lose tomorrow and we'd be 10pts off stockport with about 5 teams under them, just don't see us closing that gap, realistically we are playing for 6th place. Wycombe, Huddersfield and Wrexham spent some serious coin this window what we couldn't, but if we were genuinely serious then we could have looked at the likes of James Collins etc. They'll still wheel out promotion one liners to keep everyone on their toes but the reality is they've just pulled the purse strings a little tighter.
How else do you pay for a CEO, sporting director, head of football activities as well as their fleet of chief of staffs and assistants? Not to mention the bloated coaching staff that needs funding and the almost constant expense of having to recruit and train staff to replace those who are leaving at such an alarming rate. The transfer budget has to be reduced in order to pay for mismanagement of funds elsewhere
I said on paper…… Cosgrove, at the time, was seen to be a good signing. But done nothing for us. DKD and Humpy still are, just inconsistent. But that’s why they’re L1.
They’ve all got something - but are all inconsistent. Some more than others. Watters has had some good games this season, and his chasing down and none stop work makes a massive difference. I’ll add a caveat here that whilst I’m a season ticket holder, I’ve attended mainly away games this season - so I’m seeing the better games mainly
And his answers to that would be.. 1 Err yes we did. 2 Err no I don't think so. 3 Err that's none of your business.
I think DKD is a little inconsistent although I don't really think it's him, it's the lack of a forward who will do the donkey work for him. When Watters is fit and working the defence, DKD looks good and gets goals. When there's no one doing that, not so much. There's been no alternative to Watters all season and he struggles to stay fit. Although he gets a proper kicking. Humphrys I just don't think is much good.
Its something I keep on asking myself as well. Surely nobody would say they 'like' having to keep putting millions into a business, especially one that seems to be going downhill. So what exactly is in it for them, either short or long term ?.
That is what I also respect about Clarke. Even if its a bit unprofessional when he publicly knocks the players, its usually correct what he says. However, saying it like it is, about the people who employ him, is a bit different. His job might be on the line if he does that.
I get what you saying mate and maybe I’ve not expressed it as good as I should have. My point is that Clarke has actually praised the recruitment team for their so called hard work during this transfer. We all know it’s been poor, so instead of praising them he should have just deferred his answer, to praise them is like arse licking for me, no need he don’t have to criticise and risk consequences, not asking him to do that but I wouldn’t praise my boss for doing a shyyte job I know that. ,
Does this mean the higher raki are happy an the minnions ought to be, or the minnions should be happy cos thats yer lot for the time being, Playoffs, Promotion, keep the faith, C,O,Y,R,
Just because we didn't get deals over the line, doesn't mean the recruitment team didn't work hard. The deals may have collapsed for many reasons, outside of their control.
Hard to disagree with that. Watters puts a shift in, and that makes a big difference - like you say, acts as a good foil for DKD. It’s not Watters’ natural game (chasing down) but he does it well. But, it also means he gets quite a few knocks from it. I’m not saying he’s our saviour, but he’s done a lot better than I thought he would this season - enough so that I’d be happy for him to stay if he keeps it up.
Yeah I get that as well, and they certainly didn't deserve any credit whatsoever, for that 'window'. It would help if there could be a bit of leeway, for managers and coaches and players who want to speak up if they've got a problem. It could be done privately and sensibly, so nobody would get sacked for it etc.
Watters is useless and injury prone. He's never gonna score many goals in a season. Last time was 13 goals for Crawley in 2020...DKD is a goalscorer but needs to be supplied better
