As said above, I sometimes hear songs on radio that I think are good and when I look it's Taylor Swift. Similarly, Little Mix have done some very catchy pop songs. Does Wham! count? They really did do some great tunes. Although I have to say I'm never embarrassed to say that I like something to anyone.
Show Waddy Waddy, saw them live once at Wakefield Theatre Club (or one of its many guises). They certainly put on a great show, must have been as fit as a butchers dog to get through all the routines they did!
I secretly used to like Neil Diamond, Matt Bianco, Spandau Ballet. Wham, Duran Duran. But please don't tell anyone!!! My mates were all way too cool and alternative to associate with anyone who listened to "that kind of crap".
Another secret Taylor Swift fan here. Watched her eras tour film, say what you like she’s a force for sure.
Taylor Swift is brilliant, don’t know why folk wouldn’t admit to liking her music? she’s got a massive back catalogue with a mixture of genres. Pop, Country, Folk. Although her last 2 albums have been a bit meh, there’s some masterpieces within her discography. 1989 arguably the best ever pop record.
Culture Club made some great records. Church of the Poisoned Mind, Victims, Move Away and, especially, The Medal Songs. There’s much to like on their early albums too. I met Jon Moss once, in the mid-90s when I worked in A&E in Hampstead, where looking after the rich and famous was commonplace. His partner was the patient and she was being admitted, so Jon went home to get her some stuff. After he left I said to his partner “that is Jon Moss from Culture Club, right?” and she said “yes, and when he comes back could you do me a favour and let him know that you know who he is, cos he gets so upset that people don’t recognise him any more”!
Agree with every word pal. Her earlier stuff was much better. Her most recent album I found boring and dull. If it had been released earlier in her career I don't think it would have been liked as much.
I loved Showaddywaddy when I was a kid, but then I saw Darts on TV and they were much better. Still a fan of Darts to this day and saw them at the 100 Club not long before I left London 16 years ago. Great night.
Nothing wrong with Neil Diamond, although I am sick to death of hearing boozed up versions of Sweet Caroline. Still have no idea why that has become a requirement before every large sporting event. Never really listened to Matt Bianco, I like precisely two songs by Spandau Ballet (Round & Round and Gold, if you’re asking), but the Kemp brothers seem alright and Gary gets a bonus point for having written True about the lovely Clare Grogan (sigh!). Duran Duran were never the same band after Stephen Duffy left. But Wham! were brilliant. I like just about every track they recorded and absolutely love some of it. My ex didn’t believe me when I said I knew all the words to Young Guns! People shouldn’t be embarrassed about what they like. They should just feel embarrassed if they claim to like something they actually know nothing about, e.g. Tim Lovejoy in his Ramones t-shirt.
