I'd probably say it's not even crossed his mind, he was a league 2 manager that has been given a chance at promotion with an established League 1 club, not to mention a nice salary increase.
Good response that! Very witty and original, calling out a working class bloke to buy out a bunch of venture capitalists. Mate I wish I could! I wish I could! We'd attract owners in a heartbeat if they put it up for sale "who's gonna buy us?" Is the weakest argument ever. Just because the alternative if Jimmy Saville, doesn't mean you should be happy with Rolf Harris. This lot have taken us backwards. They're in a limbo where people will praise them for "oooo thank you for propping the club", ya mean the one they own? That's going backwards under their stewardship, every year our balance sheet and squad gets weaker. "We're a mid table league one club now", now we aren't, we just have owners how won't front end invest to compete with modern football. Modern football is a joke yes, but if they take the side that's played the most seasons in the 2nd division and try to say that mid table league one is where we belong, then they aren't fit owners for the modern game. Adapt or die! Get them gone, they'll probs ban me now, like they did with anyone who created atmosphere in ponty. They're not friends, get rid of this lot!
We're a million miles off. For a start, you've put Hourihane in that team, how many times does the man himself have to tell you that he's not going to be playing regularly? Realistically, it's going to be Russell in there as it stands, and that's terrifying. If rumours are to be believed, we've bid (and had rejected) 500K for Kieller-Dunn, they're wanting £750K, not to be distasteful, but the board need to fu*king pay it. Get the deal over the line instead of waiting for some other team to drop straight in with a bid and take him from us, it has happened over and over again. We haggle and barter with clubs for weeks only to be beaten to the signature by another club willing to pay....and these other clubs aren't spontaneously combusting into liquidation either. Players with L1 experience required, at the very least; 1. GK 2. LB/LWB 3. CM 4.ST Once they're signed, then start pi**ing about looking at kids for the U21's who we'll release in 2 years anyway.
Agreed, the club is going backwards under their stewardship. I reckon if we don't go up this season they will be looking to cut their losses, might not be a bad thing.
Some interesting points on here and some angry ones! May I just say two things? First of all its not just about the players. The key appointment was the manager. If he's any good he'll improve what we've got then who knows where we'll be. If he's no good the team will go backwards and we'll decline....again. Second point is that the window is still open so current speculation about players' positions is just that - speculation. Things will probably change by the end of August and there'll be chance for further discussion. My own opinion as to the players at the moment is that the club need to strengthen but we can always say that can't we? In other words I have no idea....
This is what we need to be steady of. Your first sentence is completely true. The fans lose their absolute minds when rumours don't come into fruition, which often leads to personal abuse. Social media has made it that way. We have absolutely no idea how much we offered or what Mansfield want. Even reputable journalists for Barnsley said Hourihane had an offer from Wrexham and it was completely false. I honestly think people get so worked up over other people's rubbish rumours which are just made up on the spot. Apparently, they want 750k up top and 250k addons. That's a hell of a lot of money for a player who's played less than 20 games in league one, who only has 1 year left on his contract. I hope we do go in for him, but it's not just all on the club. Loads of clubs & players hold out until late, to get better offers & contracts. Clarke has already said we've missed out on some targets, so we may have done everything right towards getting the player but maybe it just turns out Huddersfield paid double the wage for example.
I obviously won’t be happy to be proven wrong. But this must be one of the of the worst takes ever. we definitely need a left back, keeper and ideally a striker in but otherwise we’ll probably be okay to avoid the bottom 4. I think we’ll finish somewhere between 1 and 10.
I agree with you, I honestly do. But it's 2024 and 1 million for, what many consider, a really good player, is not a lot of money. It hasn't been a lot of money in football for about 15 years. That's the going rate. We ask for it when we sell players, we need to pay it to bring them in.
In all honesty we seem to make bids for players that would be key signings for us every summer. Call me cynical but it seems as if it’s to appease the fanbase when deep down we know we won’t get said player. Keillor Dunn looks to be that player this summer.
But the club don't prove or deny the rumours when they get spread mate, so I don't think that's correct? I don't think it's true personally anyway but I've never known the club to confirm or deny a rumour? If we want a player, it's always worth having a go at least!
We’re 3/4 players short and that’s the actual starting 11, not squad. I can’t see us being ready until maybe the second week of the season.
Last season was the season to throw any kind of money at it, & I dare say the outcome would have been different if we had. As it stands now, the signings of Hourihane & Roberts tells us all we need to know, the board want to utilise our young players, with the help of Robbo & Conor to blood them in. I can only see us signing one more player, the LWB we so desperately need.
This is going to be a tougher league 1 this season but I think we are 2 or 3 away from being able to challenge. Most of the side is fine just need a LWB and some goals up top
Haha! We disagree. I reckon if nothing happens we’ll avoid the bottom four. In fact I think we’ll be closer to the top four than the bottom four. I think if we could get the right players in, in the few areas I suggested then I think we’d have a real chance. this is not necessarily an endorsement of us and rather a reflection of most of league one.
If we have a terrible season (not hsppened yet)then I will definitely have a rethink. The rest of your post is a disgrace.
Or I may have to re educate myself on football my post said. I believe as do others that we currently have a squad that can challenge and I also said that we still need to add players LWB and a striker. Without us paying out big money signing and paying big wages it's evident some on here won't ever be happy and yes should go support another club that spends money they don't have and be millions in debt. I don't want our club to be in 10s millions£ of debt and risk administration.
