Smith /Killip O Keefe Roberts Pines Earl Craig Phillips Hourihane Connell Cosgrove Jalo Subs Degiviny Lopata Lofthouse Russell Yoganathan Bland Benson Marsh Watters Dyer Wolfe Styles Shepherd Even without additions that is decent to challenge at the top end. With Clarke playing a quick pressing forward style. Phillips, Cosgrove, Pines Earl on the end of balls in from Hourihane and Connell and long throws from Roberts and Cotter.
Need a LB Definetly and a forward to play up top with Cosgrove and a midfielder Connor isn’t gonna be able to play every week and bensons injured now
Not yet. We are weaker still than last season in certain areas. Even weaker than the season before. As it stands this is the weakest L1 team we’ve put together. That could all change tho in the next 3 weeks.
Nowhere near with regards to goals. A 3-0 friendly win at Accrington doesn’t mask that. A proven goalscorer and LWB are a must.
If you are saying that the starting 11 I picked is nowhere near being a challenging side in league 1 then I need to re educate myself on football or you may have to reconsider following a team in a higher league. I'm certainly not saying we don't need anymore players just saying what we currently have can challenge.
Hold on…..you’ve asked a question where so far nobody has agreed with you yet we are the ones who are wrong? Erm…….ok Looks like we are all off to support another team. Off to the Racecourse Ground I go then
It’s called having an opinion, I respect everyone's without trying to tell folk they’re wrong. After 50 plus years watching us I hope I have a bit of an idea lol.
We’ve lost over 30 goals in Cole and McAtee. That needs to be addressed. We have no LWB and potentially need another GK. Once they are addressed we “may” challenge.
Top 6 at a big push. Our squad has weakened in a division that has now strengthened with the teams and players that's come into the league. Plus you have those same teams making signings that Improve their squads whereas we are dragging our heels. We desperately need a left wing back and another centre midfielder as Hourihane won't be able to play every minute of every game. We also need a striker because as good as a prospect Jalo is, I don't think throwing him straight Into the starting 11 with just Watters as back up is a good plan. As another poster has said, we've lost 30 goals by losing Cole and Mcatee which we haven't replaced. For me this squad finishes 7th to 10th, this isn't me being negative I believe the appointment we made in Clarke was a good one and we've got experience in for the young players to soak up off but in this strong division, it won't be enough to challenge top 6 never mind top 2.
No. We've lost our captain and top scorer. We aren't going to challenge in a tougher league without enforcements.
Smith and Killip are not first team keepers. Cotter has a place, but it's not as a defender. Roberts won't play every game, Pines hasn't played yet since his major injury. Phillips rumoured to be not here for long. Hourihane won't play much. Connell, still a bit sickness prone and are there actually many goals in your front two. So, with what we have we may challenge, but it'll be a challenge to stay clear of the bottom 4.
The season before we had premier league and top end championship talent in a sense mate. We won't be able to recuit that - we have to improve our talent.
Compare it on a like for like basis to Bolton, Birmingham, Peterborough, Huddersfield and Rotherham, we're some way off how many of our best 11 would get into their first 11? Connell and Phillips and that's probably your lot too early to judge Pines only had 3/4 games. We won't go down but based on signings so far we won't be challenging 14-10th place I reckon
