It’s not a surprise is it.

I imagine that if you combine the Tory & Reform voters in a lot of seats it will surpass the Labour vote.

The difference round here is that a lot of people won’t vote Tory because of the miners strike so Reform will get the vast majority of the right wing votes.

There’s no doubt we’ve got our fair share of racists round here but I don’t think it means we’ve got anymore than many towns with similar demographics.

I'm sure he'll apologise and Farage will welcome him back if he becomes a MP

I agree its taken the edge of things if true. And as one poster said its Labour on a local level that's regenerated the town. I'm not a current Labour fan but in context if true this is really bad.

Be interesting how the votes stack up and if all the none labour voters in Barnsley who went green or Lib dem will regret not voting tactically to keep reform out. Or if its just a huge victory for them.

    Horrible.

It will also speak volumes about this current Labour Party and their utter disconnection from working class people if they are unable to win seats where they have historically had landslide support, and they have to take a proportion of the blame.

I actually am mate. Look I know we have our fair share of nasty folk, which town doesn’t, but I did believe and through my experience the majority of people in Barnsley are good welcoming people. I must’ve been forcing that thought on myself all these years if these result are to be expected.

I seriously hope this is wrong it’s taking the shine off what should be a triumphant day for the country! I’m no Starmer fan but they are the only viable alternative.

I’ve not voted tonight, I know at least a dozen people who have voted reform purely because of the immigration policy……..

Except that you can look on them as wasted votes. They might as well have voted for the tooth fairy for the difference it'll make.

If that’s right we have missed a great opportunity to probably have 2 local MPs serving in the Cabinet as Dan Jarvis and Steph Peacock are both highly thought of within the Party. I feel embarrassed and shamed that folk in my home Town can’t see beyond the smug-faced awful Farage

Stephanie peacock is not thought of very well by her constituents though. And that is the big issue.

If the result is as the exit poll suggests Barnsley has shot itself in the foot again by having 2 MPs who are going to be outside of the government and the town misses out again exactly the same as Brexit when all the investment money coming into the town was EU objective 1 funding but voted against it
I cannot understand how people think. As others have said this has taken the shine off a truly special moment in political history

Dan Jarvis may not be Barnsley born and bred but the guy has been a great advocate for the town. Always visible, always positive, raises funds for and the profile of local charities and organisations. I'm bitterly disappointed on his behalf.

On a slightly more positive note I've just found out that both my sister in law and her husband, neither of whom I can stand, have voted Reform. I'll be happily avoiding them at family functions in future.
