Agree' i hate the tories as much as the next man but this is a bit of a non story ' if he hadn't turned up then fine it becomes news but this is just a political points scoring exercise.
It's the media that have picked up on it and run with it. Others have commented thereafter, including a lot on his own side. So although you may think it's a non-story many don't, and many of them are offended. Far from points scoring, Sunak himself apologized - acknowledging he had made a mistake.
Given the number of military personnel in his own constituency and the fact that the Tory party are so openly targeting the older demographic, this can’t be seen as anything but an own goal. Pretty strange to prioritise an interview that won’t be screened until next week - but there we go. It does seem to look like an act of self sabotage. I’m sure he’s looking forward to not being in power - in fact I’d suggest he isn’t that desperate to remain in politics. Can’t see Richmond not returning him as MP - that area is bluer than a Smurf - but stranger things have happened.
In an alternative universe imagine the outrage from the media if it had been Jeremy Corbyn not attending.....'Traitor', 'Lack of respect ' Disgraceful ' etc etc....
His own veterans minister has said its a significant mistake. One of the surviving veterans who attended the service said Sunak had "let down his country."
I know he’s a multimillionaire but its probably why he has his suits made for him because the shortest M&S leg length in adults is 29inches
Tory speaker on politics live has just defended Sunak by describing the D Day service as the french event!
Labour leader Michael Foot got absolute pelters for his dress sense - Donkey Jacket IIRC - at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Day. I don't see why Sunak, a millionaire without an ounce of class, who couldn't wait to leave the D-Day ceremony, shouldn't get some boot as well. He should fly off asap to the US in his bloody helicopter.
It was said he gave up his green card when he took over from Bumbling Boris but let's face it he is a liar
My own theory is that if they somehow get elected while behaving like this they can reasonably claim for the duration of the next parliament that they have a mandate to act like lovely people.
Made me laugh when he was the news the other day and he denied he was moving to America cause his team had just been promoted to the Premier League as if was Southampton's biggest supporter.
You could argue that Cameron has a greater standing on the international stage & that he's a better representation in his role as Foreign Sec than the PM. Easy to flip this to not be a story other than ppl wanting it to be one.
