need to go back to a clear playing identity and then sign the players to match it. I don't care if signings are taken out of the hands of the manager, someone needs to take responsibility for recruitment and then the head coach needs to play to the strengths of the players.
I agree, not a striker...... We played with nobody upfront until Cosgrove came on. Devante has had his chance now, 2 games and not changed a thing
I agree with that, the service is absolutely awful tho. The CB's were having the majority of the ball and pinging balls trying to unlock the defence, that should be the midfields job. So much wrong with the set up, it's concerning.
I’ve only just watched their third goal again on the tv - wow - that’s an absolute disgrace of a goal to concede - it goes in,knee height, at the opposite end of the net to the side the corner was taken from. We really have beaten ourselves tonight in absolutely gifting them 2 goals.
Me too mate I’ve run out of energy to get angry. We were conned out the play offs last season and it looks like it’s happening again that goal was massive for the tie and it’s laughable how bad the refereeing is would be interested to know @Tyketical Masterstroke views on it
Best example.... Look at Bolton's first goal. Yes, he may be fractionally offside, but that ball he's put in is magnificent. People reckon Cadden is a good wingback. No he's not. He hasn't put a ball in like that all season. He hasn't put a ball in like that in his entire life. We buy League 2 players and expect our managers to turn them into diamonds. They can't, they need talent and we stopped buying talent about 3 years ago.
The experiment has failed, somehow they reached the playoffs, they may see that as some sort of achievement but as you say, we need talent and quickly
I think the fact that we reached the play-offs with this squad is amazing. And we sacked the manager who did that. We're not going forward anywhere quickly mate, we're going backwards.
I saw it more like a bullfighter letting the bull/ball steam past him, whilst at the same time wondering why a bloke in black was for some reason obsessed with his bottom.
Just got in. The M1 was closed at J37 to compound our misery, so it was the scenic route on the A629 through Huddersfield. My two penn'orth; Bolton worth their win, but just the usual 'AVOIDABLE' headline for two of their goals. Wtaf was Williams playing at trying to shepherd a bouncing ball back to Roberts with Sheehan breathing down his neck?? Schoolboy stuff - if you've not had a shout from the keeper, put it behind, ffs... Secondly....Roberts' achilles heel ALL season has been his unwillingness to come out to clear through balls outside his box. Not asking him to play sweeper-keeper, just race and out and deal with through balls. The ball's coming towards him, giving him a huge advantage. So the ball through that ultimately led to their 3rd. His to clear back upfield every bloody day of the week and twice on Sundays. What does he do? Thinks about coming then backs off. Okay, he made a save but gave them a corner they simply shouldn't have had. A minor flaw, perhaps, but it's wound me up all bleedin' season. Right, off to bed. Fu¢k 'em.
Agreed. Always watch the players' reactions. If they'd thought it was a foul, they'd have been in the ref's face about it, but nothing from them. More genuinely awful defending to blame.
A 1-on-1 that he could easily have avoided having to make by coming out to clear the through ball. That was so much 'his ball', it had his name & fu¢king address on it.
I think he did get a shout from the keeper. It's worth thinking about last season. We had Brad Collins, who picked up an injury. We got Isted in on loan who was a decent keeper, but he started to make some errors and it was obvious that Collins should have been reinstated. Collins is orders of magnitude above Isted. Duff didn't, he basically ostracised the best keeper we've had for years, who is now first choice at a Championship club, and kept his mate in goal. Duff left, Isted didn't sign and we lost Collins, because why would he stay if we're not going to play him. I doubt Roberts will have a career in the football league. His weaknesses are just too severe for any team to risk him. We could have had Brad Collins this season and be in the top two, because even with our poor defence, a top keeper, particularly one who can sweep up, makes a hell of a difference.
