A simple question for the Board, and those on here who support the board and Mr Collins. Since the arrival of Mr Collins in your opinion how many and which Barnsley FC players have improved and as a result increased their value to the club?
Who are these sought after saleable assets?...the good ones with value were sold or left before the season started. If you mean Cole and Kane, they've both had their best seasons for BFC in the year they're out of contract. If you mean Jordan Williams he's been with us six years and buyers haven't been beating the door down...Luca Connell...injured/ill...apart from the above I can't think of anyone that looked as though they'd be capable of getting a bigger club.
That's not the question I asked I asked which players had improved since Mr Collins had arrived the two you've suggested have improved I'd say that the longer Mr Collins has been here the less the alleged improvement has become.
You should care because the model the club follows is dependent on increasing the value of the players it acquires in order to sell them at a profit in order to survive. So if Mr Collins is failing to improve his players he is not just putting promotion at risk he's putting the whole club at risk of he's allowed to carry on.
You can't argue with the fact that they've done better than ever before. Kane in particular has not been a great signing, before this season he'd scored none in the Championship, and only 4 in League 1..with much better players behind him...he's doubled that total in 39 games this season. Of the others there is little room for improvement, they've come from Scottish or L1.. or lower and they won't get any higher whoever is the manager.
Is that because of Mr Collins or because Kane decided he better pull his finger out to get another signing on fee and better pay for his services next season?
I'm not crediting Collins with his improvement necessarily, but the fact remains this is his best season so far...don't let's forget he was so poor he was put out on loan for a long while...perhaps he is just working harder now he thinks he'll get a better move on a free.
So in other words despite it being a vital part of his job and one on which the survival of the club depends Mr Collins as failed to improve any player so as to increase their value to the club.
That's a flawed assessment tbh...in the past we fetched in young players who had promise, since then (in the main) we've fetched in players in their mid 20's who've never done anything much previously and aren't likely to go any further than BFC....because tbh they dont have the capability to be very good players. As they say... you can't polish a ****.
While player trading is an important income stream for the club, we are not dependent upon it to survive. The shortfall in the club's accounts is significant enough that it'd be very optimistic to assume that we could cover £5m+ every year just by selling players. If selling players was essential to our ongoing existence then not moving on Kane, Williams, Cadden and Cole in January was negligence. What we are dependent upon is the ongoing benevloence of the current board, who have repeatedly committed to putting their hands into their own pockets.
What gets me, a non descript board who are not particularly savvy in the game of football back and believe in a chancer like collins but cannot listen to approximately 11000 reds fans who can see his faults week in week out
There's a chance Pines Okeefe Earl Connell Russell Phillips Cosgrove Jalo may have a decent season next. They might be worth a few quid then.
Close but not quite. All our problems stem from one thing and one thing only. Take some time to think about the next sentence.... Our owners know nothing about football. Nothing. At. All. They can put in as much money as they like, choose whatever manager, study spreadsheets forever. At best they’ll end up with a collection of players/mangers they may or may not make money from. But not a football team.
Replace Collins with someone half decent who knows the efl and ALL the players at the club will improve. Collins has ruined everyone. Good players (for this level) have been made to look poor and average players now look like kak. The coach has to go as soon as the season ends. If he's allowed to continue we'll be lucky to still be in L1 this time next year. He'll also drive more fans away and they might be hard to win back.
Yep, spot on. Every single player has been made worse by Collins as the season's gone on. All he's instilled in them is fear. Fear of trying things, fear of running with the ball, fear of taking a shot, fear of making mistakes. None of them look like they actually enjoy playing football any more. It's unforgivable.
