why a 7:30pm KO on a Saturday - it wasnt for TV in those days. Thats just after I started watching us the season before but I wasnt at Torquay away - have been though hope they can sort out their problems and get back into the league PS seen where the ref is from
My first game was at the start of Jan '81, in the Fa cup, against Torquay. And remember, we were just about still challenging Rotherham for the title, in the last day of that season.
They finished 16th in league two not long back. We've been here 2 years, hopefully we go up this year. But there's unquestionably a Wednesday-esque feeling around portions of the fanbase these days imo.
Sad thing is, I can picture all of those players in my mind. I couldn't recognize the appearance of half our squad now.
Think My first match I was stood next to someone (Halifax at home 1972 2-2) called owd lil, large lil or something like that, knew Preedy.
apparently it was usual for them through the 70’s and 80’s I think it was because they had a lot of local leagues in the afternoons and it gave those players a chance to play then go to the Torquay game
53 years ago and Barry Murphy is still around Oakwell. He'd already been here for 9 years by the time of that Torquay game. What a legend!
