Or rather for the 50% shares. That's an absolute bargain. Quite sad that the club didn't buy the half for that amount really or that fans couldn't have been offered the chance to chip in to own shares. Edit: that's I'm quite sad that we didn't because it would be nice, not it's quite sad as in a derogatory use of the word.
I'm happy the club probably weren't offered the opportunity to buy it. Nice to have that safety net, just incase it fell into the wrong hands.
Agree. The deal was in the interest of the fans. (as the council quite clearly stated. It would have been as is, if the board had bought the crynes share, bear in mind The crynes own 20% of the club as well) I think the board can agree with that. As I certainly don't think they see Barnsley as a cash cow. It's the length of the lease that surprised me. I would have thought the board might have wanted longer. but it seems they are happy enough to put plans in place regardless. Win win for us in that respect. Take wendy. Look at the state of the sty. No investment. An owner who can't or won't let go for less than he's paid. (Desperate to get monies in with his ludicrous season ticket offers) Also bear in mind he sold the ground to himself, to avoid sanctions, by covering the clubs losses himself. (Not sure why the league haven't taken action on that) I truly think they will implode if they get relegated. And go into liquidation. Administration at best. And imho there will be people in the background waiting to snatch the administrators hands off, for a fraction of the cost of taking it off Chansiri's hands as it stands at the mo. He has far too much to lose, but because of his stubbornness will eventually lose it all. And to think he will have had to go through a fit and proper person examination. Now called the owners and directors test
We'd have to argue the fact we sell out every match for that mate... and we are nowhere near doing that!
Huddersfield average 19k in championship - why wouldn’t we want to aspire to at least that? Given Barnsley metropolitan population is bigger then Huddersfield’s.
I haven't said anywhere we shouldn't mate - we should aspire to get the ground full at every given opportunity. My point is they'd just say about reducing cost due to not all stands being available is a moot point because we don't sell any stand to its full capacity.
I think you are wrong. Kirklees (Huddersfield) the equivalent of Barnsley metropolitan borough. Is 200k more. 430k compared to 230k The town of udders nearly double that of the town of Barnsley. 140k + compared to 70k+ We will aspire to more than 19k if we got back in the prem. 18.5k last time. Huddersfield may have to compete with leeds. Barnsley. Both sheffield clubs and leeds.
I think the Council buying it was the right call. It keeps the ownership and any required investment needed simple and uncomplicated.
No expert but that seems well below market value if so well done the Crynes gift to the people of Barnsley. Win win to me an asset that never be cash in on and now a public arena with great link to the town centre as others have said with the new bridge (are the lifts working yet)that hopefully can be used for other things especially in the summer. The ground is not a drain on the football side of things struggling to see a downside
So does that mean that all the money they have left in march running up to the new tax year can be spent on the club so that they can get their full allowance from the government for the next year.
The season tickets were pretty cheap at Huddersfield for this season: Adults: £249 Under 23s: £159 Under 18s: £129 Under 16s: £109 Under 11s: £49 So i think people bought the tickets as it would be far cheaper than paying on the gate even if they're only going to make 10 games a season. I very much doubt an average of 19k have actually been attending the matches
Cracking adult prices those for the championship. They dwarfed those of wednesday and leeds, and were available till the end of June at that price as well.
Someone with a bigger brain then mine can probably work out the maths of how many people they reckon would buy a season ticket at the above price, who wouldn't have bought one at a higher price and wouldn't have paid on the door 10 times in a season. Minus the difference in a higher season ticket price that the core season ticket holders would buy regardless. Or something.
