Made me chuckle. One of the older guys at work played the banjo. And played dualling Banjo's on his own. (Yes lol and actually one of my favourite pieces of music, and a quality scene from one of my favourite films, Deliverance) One of the lads would pipe up. " Take down them there pantees boy, and squeal like a pig" "wheee" n a redneck high pitched voice lol.
I’d be honest. I’d get rid. We were rancid again tonight. Go 1-0 up then crawl back into our shells like we always do when we take the lead. It’s every game and it comes from the sideline. He’s out of his depth and unwilling to learn lessons.
In one of the weakest divisions that I remember. The remit is to gain promotion. Currently he is failing at that as our league position is outside the promotion places. He's also seen us dumped out of the league cup and fa cup in the first round (he picks the team. He should be aware of the rules) and now out of the football league trophy in the second round. That is absolutely atrocious really.
He isn't good enough unfortunately, but neither is the defence. The problem is above him as we saw first hand last night.
To answer those points, as they're all fair questions: 1. The Division may be weaker I agree. But so are we. The main players we've lost are Anderson, Kitching, Norwood, and whichever keeper we played last year. Their replacements are inadequate. Add to that Connell has suffered from a long term illness and Roberts (who showed signs of being the best replacement for last seasons lads) is also injured. 2. The remit is to gain promotion. I agree. We're 7th (sorry, wHeRe 7th). And at this stage of the season, this is a decent spot to be in. We've games in hand on the teams immediately above us, and the automatic spots are not out of reach. Folk might not like it because we don't win every game 7-2, but these are the facts. We may lose the next 5 because we aren't exactly playing like Brazil 1970 - but we may pick up. Who knows? What I do know is what the league table tells me. 3. The League Cup exit. I don't care. If anyone else does, then that's up to them. I'm pretty sure that the remit you speak of doesn't include giving a flying squirrel about the league up. 4. We're out of the FA Cup. After this was beaten into him last night, I'm pretty sure if it was his fault then he would have admitted it. Or Neerav or JAQ would have said it. The fact that they kept speaking about "processes" was very frustrating, but probably indicates that it was some poor admin sap who sorted the player availability list that Collins could use. Or Khaled. And as you fully well know, that man is about as useless as a catflap in an elephants house. 5. I care less about the FL Trophy even less. Folk were on about boycotting it at the start of the year due to the U21 sides in it. Now apparently its bigger than the Champions League. I'd love us to move to a back four, but he haven't got the personnel for that. We haven't got centre halves that are comfortable to play in a 2. Nor can our wing backs play full back effectively. Plus, our central midfielders seem to fit better in a 2 than a 3. I'd play a Mike Bassett 4 4 flipping 2, but that's just me. I recognise that we can't do that with the personnel Collins has been given. If we aren't at least comfortably in the top 6 by February, then I'd be asking questions. But at the minute I'm happy. I guess I'm just pretty patient with gaffers - after all, I wanted to keep Schopp! I think he's doing a decent job with the tools he's been given by an incompetent CEO. It's akin to bringing a water pistol to the Russian Frontline. Hopefully that explains my position, whether you disagree (which you probably will!) or not.
I do disagree, you're right. But that's fine, we're all human aren't we. What I appreciate is that you took the time to explain all of your views and with that in mind I really can't argue as it's your opinion and you're perfectly entitled to it, especially as it's based on actual facts and logical thinking. Annoyingly if it wasn't for the fact that his football bores me to tears I would probably have to agree with you. That's the problem I think, the lack of any entertainment means that when it is marginal I have to go for get shut because I hate being bored at football. And even more annoyingly I've seen that we have the ability to play exactly the style of football that I love. Wingers like Barry cotter bombing down with the ball and hitting it in with pace. Occasionally we do it and I love it but then for the other 80 minutes I'm falling asleep. If we played exciting football and were where we are I'd say fine, when we play boring football and we're where we are I can't get passed that. To be honest that may well be my failing as opposed to Collins'
I get that part too. I just get frustrated with the Sack Him Brigade, because it means we're ripping things up and starting again, we're paying out more money on everything and it means we'd be into our 8th H.C. in the past 6 seasons or whatever it is. Plus statistically, we aren't actually doing that bad. I absolutely want us to go balls to the wall and try to smash other teams to pieces, but if we don't then I don't get too down about it. I guess it depends on a person's character maybe.
IMHO nothing will happen anyway until we have a permanent CEO and DOF. Once they are in place, I expect a full review of the club from top to bottom and they will decide if Neil Collins is the man to take us forward. I personally don't think he will be here when the season ends, promotion or not
