My daughter's first away match, she absolutely loved it. The Lincoln Fanzone. Excellent food and booze, very reasonably priced. £4.50 a pint from a microbrew is unheard of these days. Hats off to the Tipsy Imp. Connell's return. The best player on the field by an absolute mile. Not only was he superb, but his presence makes Kane and Styles so much more effective. Cosgrove. Looked a real handful when he came on, and his purpose on the field was very clear. I'm sure there's a lot more to come from him. Lopata - great to see him back. Showed some lovely touches. Our performance from around 20 minutes in until we went ahead. Energy, passion, hard work. Looked exactly like we did under Duff, and were well worth the two goals we scored. Going into our shells as soon as we went ahead - very disappointing, but that's another point for another thread. Overall I had a cracking day out. Really enjoyed the game. I still think there are a lot of question marks hanging over Collins, especially the way he disrupted the defence late on, but I'll still give him the benefit of the doubt so far. I saw enough today to be optimistic that with Luca Connell fit we'll be a different animal from here on.
Glad you enjoyed yourselves (can you really call Lincoln an 'away match' for your daughter?). Struggling with the sentence that contains the words 'Styles' and 'effective'.
Great news. I think it's wonderful to see & hear of young 'uns picking up the baton from the old fogies like me who are now unable to attend.
She bought a "Barnsley til I die" pin with her pocket money outside the ground, so I have no doubt where her loyalties lie! Walking to and from the match was a lovely novelty though. Styles was very hit and miss today, but having Connell on the field gave both him and Kane a freedom that they've not previously had this season. Lincoln man marked Styles extremely tightly which made it very difficult for him to be as effective as we'd have liked, but I saw enough to hope that we'll really start to take games by the scruff of the neck with those three in midfield and Luca pulling the strings. Really hope I'm not wrong on this one as we're buggered if I am!
At this moment in time, I think it's highly unlikely I'll attend again. Never mind. The future of our club is in the hands of the likes of yourself and your daughter. Which I believe Disney called 'The Circle Of Life'.
Indeed. Great atmosphere in the second half. I was worried that our nobhead element would be out in force, but by and large it was extremely good natured. Although singing "Lincoln's a shithole" in one of the most beautiful cities in England was a touch odd!
A good summary for me that. Collins can't be blamed for the reckless challenge by Williams. We all have commented that McAtee is not a striker, a number 10. Both our goals came when he was in that position. Jury out on Collins IMO. Cosgrove looked better. Hope we sell Styles for a big fee & move to a back 4, so we can play Cotter as a winger, failing that a 3-4-3, with him on the right of the front 3. At the moment the formation & style of play is way off.
How is it a brilliant result from 2-1 up to throwing away 3 points? Not sure if your taking the piss with that post but for me it's a disappointing result. No need for Collins to go defensive when we went ahead as Lincoln were there for the taking.
Completely agree. Lincoln were very well organised but also quite limited. I was really impressed with their right back (number 2) and Alex Mitchell (25) at centre half, but we were absolutely battering them when we went 2-1 up. We should have gone for the kill but seemed to go into panic mode. The overall performance was very pleasing, but I'm still massively disappointed that we didn't see the game out.
Describing a point away at Lincoln as a "brilliant result" is precisely why the charlatans running our Club get away with all the gaffes and downright lies they put us through. Our standards are non-existent. I'm just baffled that people aren't properly ticked off with pretty much everything BFC at the moment.
