https://www.teamtalk.com/news/exclu...nsley-star-january-after-fa-cup-wonder-strike Leeds and Sunderland too. Most worryingly, the article states he's out of contract in the summer. Aside from the disappointment of not seeing his progress at Barnsley, what fee could we realistically get?
I doubt it's true his contact is up in the summer. he signed a pro contact last year after scoring 27 goals. Would we really only give him 2 years???
It says they're keeping an eye on him. I don't think any of that is new news. Presumably, we're entitled to compensation for him if he was to leave in the summer, so he'd command a fairly good fee given he's regularly playing in Portugal's youth setup.
Poorly written clickbait article, can't even get the part about his first goal fir the club right, it certainly wasn't v Horsham
No it wasn't, at least not on the main announcement anyway https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2022/july/fabio-jalo-pro-deal/
He was never going to be here long now was he.. lot more chance of Marshy hanging around.. Brighton would be a great move for Jalo..
Be surprised if he's not on the radar of continental teams. Would fit Dortmund's profile well and he'd probably have a better chance of playing.
There wouldn't be any compo. Even if he gets us promoted there is still zero hope he signs a new contract.
As far as I know, as long as we offer a contract we get compo, even if he doesn't sign (assuming it's right that he's out of contract in the summer)
Feel like it’s a hard one for the club to call this. Take a smaller lump sum now with a % of the next sale or try our luck and see if we can develop him ourselves and get a nice big fee in a year or two. Pros and cons to both, I wouldn’t want to be the one making this choice that’s for certain!
Any compensation deal could include appearance, % of future sales, etc. as part of it. I reckon we'll get 50-100 games before he leaves (possibly more if we get promoted this season) - like Stones before him.
Only discussing him with a guy at work yesterday after showing him his goal, I work nowhere near Barnsley so you get a mixture of different football fans. I commented that we'll be selling him for £2m next season, whoever buys him will be selling him for £10m plus the season after - unfortunately. He looks a real prospect and I think he should now be in every matchday squad to begin to build up his first team minutes.
