Now the first tie is over i note that the Horsham manager is still commenting about the date / time change. Maybe we should now be asking the SYP what extra policing was provided on Friday night. After all, if its none then there clearly was no need to change it. Maybe as the trust are good at writing letters on behalf of the fans then this could be a nice question to ask.
I'm sure I read that there were three officers present with the Horsham fans, two of which were actually from Sussex Police and just one from SYP. If there were any anywhere else they must have been working under cover NB I see Accrington took all of 266 to Doncaster which can't have needed much above one copper and his dog either (probably not even the dog).
Saw one van under the bypass but none in town, from what I’ve heard their fans were great and had a good weekend. No idea what syp were worried about
Maybe like the Queen. He has 2. Edit, whoosh, straight over mi ed lol. Should have realised with the yr.
I’d highlight the fact that there has at times just been 2 coppers in one patrol car covering all of Barnsley at night in the week. So whilst a load of police weren’t required, there is a shortage at times and even 5-6 coppers significantly alters shift patterns and availability at other times.
I heard there weren't many more mobile units patrolling Sheffield when SYP despatched a number of officers to London when the Tottenham riots were taking place. The phrase 'the thin blue line' was never more apt. I suspect the two officers on duty in Barnsley were the ones out in a car as there were probably others on duty at Police Stations although I'm not sure how quickly they could be mobilised.
