    Hard to argue against him.

You’d have to go right back to Mark Jones & Tommy Taylor to even find another candidate, and you can’t really compare footballers from now to those in the 1950s.

We've had loads of good players come through from the juniors. But none to my knowledge with the international career he's having.
Tommy Taylor's career obviously cut short at the age of 26. Anyones guess what he would have finally achieved. I think Mark Jones signed for man utd as a schoolboy.

I don’t think people appreciate just how difficult it is to do the role that he’s doing.

Worth noting that they’ve tried Ake, Walker, Cancelo, Lewis & probably a few others in the same role who haven’t been able to do it anywhere near as well.

I watched the game on Sunday, and he was class.

It's like having an extra man on the pitch when you have a centre half who, not only does his defensive duties exceptionally well, but is often in the middle of the park trying to start attacks. He was sublime, and has certainly upped his game again in the last 18 months or so.

I'd love for him to have that role for England, however I don't think he ever will under Southgate.
