As Gravy Chips has pointed out there is a deep context to this which is easily ignored or misunderstood or forgotten by people who have no immediate interest in things so that they simply comment about news reports of violence. Violence and killing are truly awful things and its truly terrible that Israeli civilians have been murdered and kidnapped. It is. But, I wish some people would try and think about things before they slag off Palestinians full stop. There is a gradual genocide there, an apartheid system and a lack of political equality for Palestinians which has been enshrined in Israeli law. Treatment of Palestinians for years in different forms has been appalling. Yes, the rocket attacks and murders are atrocious but there's a big picture here and I suggest people making comments should read up on their history. Its lazy not to do so.
Zelensky has to support Israel whether he wants to or not given the support the US are giving Ukraine. It is bizarre to see though.
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/jeremy-corbyn-hamas-israel-palestine-b2426364.html It shouldn't be so hard to condem a terrorist group and call them what they are.
Ive seen the footage of the interview as he's walking down the street and he categorically states, twice, that he 'condemns all violence'. He even stops to repeat himself and the interviewer still asks the question again. Edit here you go https://youtube.com/shorts/1LzOnZoHLGY?si=oW5IgSIFHoaBWVvM
The former Labour leader said “all attacks are wrong”...“I don’t support any attacks, therefore I criticise them all,” he added
I have seen rumours online - and I'll admit they could be complete baloney - that Russia are arming Hamas. *If* that is the case, then it makes it much more complex.
So, at the minute we have one side committing terrorist attacks on innocent Israelis. On the other side, we have a nations military committing war crimes by bombing a civilian hospital. I'm starting to think the best solution for the Middle East would be to give everyone a month to move away then nuking the entire area from orbit to be sure.
Pictures show them with American weapons they’ve never had before - consequences of U.S withdrawal from Afghanistan - Taliban have supplied abandoned arms to Hamas, probably via Iran.
Wakeyred seems to be expousing this as a dispute between Islam and Judaism. It is not. It is more than a dispute and it is between Israel and Palestine. Criticism of Israel is not being anti semitic. The Palestinians have been uprooted and herded into Gaza which in effect is a ghetto, something which Isrealis are all too familiar. So when an oppressed people have no powers of negotiation there will obviously evolve an element of hard line zealots who will chose to violently rail against that oppression. Whilst the actions of Hamas must be condemned the the ongoing (since 1948) oppression of Palistinians by Israel cannot be condoned.
Just to play the devils advocate here, if a Tory MP had answered that question that way, would it have been acceptable? Corbyn in fact (rightly) condemned all violence, which pretty much is his mantra anyway, but he didn't actually answer the specifics of the question that was put to him.
It would be absolutely naive to dismiss the religious element of this, the disputes around the main religious site in Jerusalem is a huge part it. What is driving the orthodox Jewish illegal settlements in the west bank is the Old Testament prophecies. What has driven many of the 1 million Jews who used to live in peace in Arab countries out has by and large been pogroms encouraged and supported by the teachings in madrassas and religious leaders in Islam. Consistently, poll after poll shows much higher hostility of Muslims towards Jews around the world then non-Muslims - and within Muslim groups it is higher amongst those who go to a Mosque consistently as against Muslims who don’t.
Let's not forget that the Israeli state was founded by using.....terrorism. Now I'll happily admit that if I were them and wanted a homeland after centuries of persecution I'd be doing the same. Nevertheless the parallels are inescapable.
If Corbyn is now an irrelevant figure in politics as the Tories and within the Labour Party have claimed, why are they chasing his opinion in this matter? I suppose it’s nothing to do with desperate Tories trying to gain some political pull on this.
Which would be another war crime. I know that politicians tend to jerk knees after a terrorist attack, but they will kill kids and create more terrorists doing this.
Your continued argument that this conflict is based upon religous divisions is declining the debate into sophistry and is not germane to the issue. In 1946 when the Irgun Zvai Le'umi, a self proclaimed Jewish terrorist organization, bombed the King David Hotel they were not looking to kill Christians they were looking to kill members of the occupying British. The genocide of Palestinians many of whom are/were not Muslims has gone on since the establishment of the state of Israel. They have progressively extended their occupation of the west bank, ethnic cleansing it and building settlements and forcing the arab population into Gaza. The conflict has then and still is based in racism. Can you explain why the Bishop of Jerusalem, a Christian arab, had his house bulldozed by the Israeli army. Was it because he was Christian or an arab ? No it was because he voiced his opinions on the Israeli persecution and ethnic cleansing of Palestinian areas of Jerusalem. Dieter Bonhoffer a Geman Christian went back to Germany from the US to speak out against Jewish persecution, Hitler had him killed. Had him killed not for religous reasons but for speaking out against an oppresive regime. You should not let your Islamaphobic bias cloud your determination of facts.
