I wonder if the Newsbot bloke reads the BBS ?
I mentioned a few days ago that there were no results or fixtures on the main site. Someone else talked about this Sunday's match not being advertised . Lo and behold, a hastily constructed fixture list has been published and we now have news of the next fixture

    Oh right.
I thought that they would play all home games "ON oakwell...."

That's a shame. Hopefully over time that may be the case if they are one day hoping to go places etc

Why would you think they would all be on the main pitch. It was stated. selected games as and when will be chosen. As are the U18 and U21 academy teams. Or do you think all Games associated with Barnsley fc should be. It'll never be the case. WSL clubs don't play all theirs on the main pitch. Why should we be different.
Be interesting to see how many turn up sunday.

Hope they tidy up, play on there every Thursday it’s a dump, rubbish all over the toilets are minging, nets of various sizes scattered about.
They won’t need them but lots of floodlight bulbs out.

That may be true but I thought the same thing. It might not make logical sense but I’d somehow got it into my head that that’s what was happening.

Well facilities for one. If they are hoping to generate revenues and decent crowds eventually that's why.

I can't see the 3G pitch having the same pull for games tbh

"It's back to home comforts following last Sunday's fixture at Wallsend was abandoned early in the second half due to a thunderstorm."

You missed 'that' between 'Wallsend' and 'was'. Seems we notice article mistakes most days lately.

Saturday starts a run of 4 home games for the men’s first team in 15 days. I don’t know much about football pitch maintenance but I imagine it will be a challenge to keep it in perfect nick with that much action.

I’m certain they’ll do again when the home schedule for the men’s team is a bit lighter.

With respect. I wish em success but to play on Oakwell at this stage will not happen on a regular basis. If ever. And what sort of average attendances do you think we can achieve. To warrant playing on the main pitch. ?

    Correct.
It has already been stated as and when appropriate. The success of the team (ladies) will also have a bearing.
As with all teams attached to the club.

I understand them not playing on the main pitch every week but I'm a bit surprised they're playing on AstroTurf instead of the showcase pitch which just from the name I'd assume is the main academy pitch?

I wonder how much it would cost to build more small stands on the academy. Long term it could be a good solution

The Showcase pitch if I'm not mistaken. Is played on by the U21's, U18s and occasionally an U23s game.
I'm not sure the pitch could sustain another team.

The 3G pitch has the largest stand and is fully covered, along with easy access to it and right in front of the main changing rooms. I agree a grass pitch would be better, but if a largish crowd is expected, this is the safest and most logical pitch to use.

hope not, not because it’s the ladies team but because the main pitch needs as little extra use as possible to keep it in top nick.

My girlfriend - despite supporting a different club when it comes to men's football - bought a season ticket for Birmingham City women a few years ago, in part because she wanted to support them playing all their games at St Andrew's (Villa, which would have been the other local team, play at the Bescot). She's renewed every year since and is now a proper supporter. It's the Championship, so quite a few steps above us, but playing in the club's real home ground definitely seems to make a difference in terms of people considering it a 'real fixture', and bringing fans - particularly kids - over from the men's team.

Granted they only open one stand, but still seem to be able to maintain a decent crowd of a few thousand or so, and as far as I'm aware manage to shift a fair amount of beer and food. Got to be worth a shot surely, particularly if we can manage a couple of quickish promotions so people get used to watching a winning team.

I wonder why they put the AstroTurf on the best pitch rather than the other way round

I assumed from the first game and the "fanfair" they played it would be a regular thing. If not fair enough, but at some point if they want to compete at a higher level (and have aspirations to reach the top level) then this certainly needs consideration.

We can't dump them in the background on a training pitch with no facilities. That's all.

The club have made a real effort to make this a massive thing (granted Comms since has been less than great) but we can't just say bugger off from the main pitch just cos it's not the men's team?

Why the change of venue? The earlier fixture list shows this game as away.
