What gets me is, the report that came out that said something like racism was endemic throughout cricket, has any other club been brought to book? Have they f"…..
And they’ve lost 4 pts in the T20 competition which is already over !!. They’ve just to find £100k now and £300k over next two years
Doesn't excuse Yorkshire's failings though. Makes football fines and points deductions look tiny though.
why hasn't the ECB been fined £400,000 and had a 48 point deduction? White man speak with forked tongue.
I don’t get your point? You complained no one else had been punished and I pointed out we were punished in the main because we tried to hide it and refused to admit there was a problem. Once we did admit it we then refused to act on reports findings.
my point was just that I haven’t seen anything being done about cleaning up the game in general, just our case.
Not really, equivalent to 2 wins; though where Yorkshire would get 2 wins from, god knows, especially now with no money to pay decent players.
ECB have been tame. They understand that I'd they damage Yorkshire too much, it damages the national side because nobody is better than us at getting lads ready for the international game.
Just catching up on all this. Think the points deductions are harsh, it’s punishing the current squad for the failings of previous squads / administrators. By the same token the club do need to be punished, send a message to the game etc. Think promotion was a long shot to be honest so probably no damage done. From a selfish point of view I’m hoping to get to a couple of one day cup games in august so I’m glad that hasn’t been affected! Hopefully this is the clean page moment, and we can keep moving forward.
The book was heavily thrown at Yorkshire and maybe rightly so. However if this is the scale of penalty then i am waiting with interest to see what penalties are served to the ECB for allowing this system issue to be rife in the game.
My main concern here, is that any punishment doesn’t punish the fans, and the youth setup in terms of funding etc. It’s not the fans fault or the youth setup fault. I was also against the ECB removing any England games from Headingley too - as again, that would have been just punishing the fans. The fine - what are the ECB doing with this? Surely it might have been better for them to ringfence it and put back into the club for inclusion initiatives? Like getting the game out into deprived areas and things like that?
In effect, the punishment imposed is a £100k fine and to write off this season, which wasn’t going anywhere really anyway. Though second in the table has only won one game aswell, it is unlikely Yorkshire would have overhauled all those in front of them to sneak up there. The rest of the fine is suspended for two years. That doesn’t mean they have two years to pay it. It’s suspended, meaning they only pay it if there are further transgressions, if they don’t meet the set criteria. It’s like a suspended prison sentence. They in reality won’t need to pay a penny of it, as there would need to be a brain fart of the highest order for anyone in English cricket to think they’d get away with anything which could be interpreted as racial prejudice, let alone within Yorkshire CCC. Yes there are bound to be other counties that need sorting, yes the ECB itself needs a good looking into - but that doesn’t mean Yorkshire as a club didn’t have to receive a punishment. The behaviour from the individuals involved was abhorrent and needed eradicating, and that will be the case elsewhere as well as within our club, but the issue here that intensified the focus and punishment is that there was a denial of the issue for a prolonged period, a stubborn refusal to accept findings and an internal ‘review’ which ignored the truth and found themselves innocent. To be honest I think this is relatively lenient. Certainly not as harsh as I’d expected. The club have accepted it, I’m sure £100k can be found to settle the fine, the playing and coaching staff can now finish the season without a cloud over them and look to next year to start the process of bouncing back. They will. Unfortunately there are a not insignificant number of Yorkshire fans and followers, including a fair number of members, that still refuse to believe anything was wrong, and who still maintain unchanged attitudes towards such matters. The club will have to keep an intense watch to make sure this doesn’t end up reflecting on the club again.
Forgetting the politics of the game, Yorkshire have 2 x 50 over games at Scarborough this week … one is Lancs on Thursday. Health and weather permitting I should be there and happy to meet anyone
