Isted was excellent at Wembley until the 123rd minute. I have watched the winning goal at least half a dozen times and think he should have saved the header.
My mate at work ( a Leeds fan) said exactly the same. I can't watch it back and I don't plan on doing.
Such an disingenuous stat though, conceding every shot on target crap. When the only shot on target a team has is a penalty, then the stats will look bad without context. Collins does a lot what stats don't pick up on, or did do. Especially in championship. The amount of shots he denied the opposition having due to his sweeper keeper wont be recorded, etc. So unfair slating Collins after a dodgy few games, especially when it came to light he was injured.
Bet he's replayed it in his mind over and over! He was great overall at Wembley though, especially given his inexperience. I'm not blaming him at all.
He should've indeed. But Connell should've scored that easy chance before that. Phillips shouldn't have dove in and put himself in the position to be sent off (however wrongly) The referee should've given us a penalty in the first half. There's plenty of blame to go around if you look far enough. Isted has saved us plenty of times, including in the final itself.
Connell's miss was a worse mistake than Isted's to be honest. But a keeper's mistake is always picked on. I have no problem with either of them.
Not the first in this thread to talk about other players and positions outside of Isted and Goalkeeper but fair enough.
Big fan of Harry's but turned round to look at the replay on the scoreboard at Wembley first I said ho got two hands to that should have stopped it but he made two or three much harder stops unfortunately just one them things.
If EVERYONE you’ve heard in person says he’s outstanding then you’ve either got selective hearing or keep company with people who exclusively have the same blinkered vision. I’ve heard different views in the stands, walking through the car park and up ponty road, as well as on here. Harry Isted is a good goalkeeper at league one level. He really is, I am not and don’t think anyone is trying to suggest otherwise. But he has made too many errors to be considered ‘outstanding’ - and several of them were worryingly similar in nature. You also insist that Collins barely made a save. You’ve said on multiple occasions that every shot on target was a goal. Watered it down to ‘almost every’ on this thread. Really? He never made a save? How many of those ‘almost every shot on target’ were penalties, given we conceded loads consecutively? How many games did we not concede many shots on target at all, in part due to him sweeping up and the defensive line being higher? You keep insisting on this about Collins - and fail to acknowledge any counter argument at all. Views aren’t necessarily ‘polar opposite’. Not many - if any - are saying Isted is crap. It’s just that some see the attributes Collins has that you fail to acknowledge, and also maybe see the weaknesses Isted has shown that you don’t want to. They both have pros and cons, there’s arguments to favour either depending on how we play and who our centre backs will be, but in your eyes it seems you see it like a comparison of Lev Yashin and Massimo Taibi. I’d be perfectly happy to start the season with either of them. I just dont think we need both - so if Collins isn’t to be sold then we don’t need Harry Isted. We might end up with neither.
People forget Collins saved us from some absolute cricket scores in the championship at times...... Proven performer in a division above, only 26 years of age, use the extra money to extend his contract and have one of our own youngsters on the bench.
That's because we played a very sweeper keeper style of football which he excelled at. However play a normal style if football and he's extremely weak. I'd go as far as to say hes one of the worst, if not the worst, shot stoppers in the last 10 or 20 years. So if we play the val way of everyone pressing and the keeper playing half way up the pitch then he's absolutely the man for the job. If we play with the keeper in his box having to dive for the ball then if isted doesn't sign I hope Jamie Searle gets given the number 1 shirt
We didn't play sweeper style under schop or poya. And he pulled off many great saves and performances that season to keep the score down. I'd like to see where he ranked on @Jimmy viz poll at the end of that season because he was my motm on quite a few occasions.
