And where did I say that concern about the impact of lockdown was right wing? Maybe respond to the words I actually posted and not the ones you choose to read into them.
On your third point, using November 2022 as the measure is mad. Lockdown had ended way before then so saying it failed because people got it when we weren’t locked down is a strange one. Lockdown was to stop people getting it before a vaccine was made and distributed, not to stop being getting it indefinitely. (Sorry for the words mad and strange, I’ve had a bit to drink when I don’t usually drink at all so I can’t think of how to phrase things as well as I’d like to).
It's Summer - Pimms in the garden and posting is 100% allowed. Plus it's not offensive at all. The poster was crediting lockdown with preventing him having Covid; I'm merely pointing out that he's in a minority; it ultimately only achieved that for very few people. You're right, but I would say only partially - lockdown was indeed for that purpose, *but* importantly at that time it was envisaged that a vaccine would work like most traditional vaccines and stop you getting and/or transmitting Covid, and therefore de facto stop most people getting it. Which it didn't. I also couldn't find many figures for earlier! There's some reference to 70% at February 2022 which I appreciate was still well after most measures were dropped.
All feels a little Al Capone to me. Johnson is a deplorable Human Being but the thi g he has been found guilty of here (lying to the house) is something a huge number of out MPs are guilty all. Its a real.shame our system is so useless they aren't all held to account and it's just generally accepted politicians lie.
The concerning thing about all this is that some people are still openly willing to defend Johnson. Its absolutely unbelievable. The guy has a track record of lying and dishonesty which goes back decades across several roles. He's a serial liar and we didn't need the committee report to tell us. The only 'extra' thing the committee has actually reminded us of is that he is dangerous for democracy yet, as I say, he still has supporters and gullible people who think what he does and says is ok and that he's still a good guy. He's nasty and has helped accelerate Britain's decline. Good riddance. Go away and don't come back.
The tories MUST put this Boris Johnson thing behind them on Monday. There’s so much to do, and little time left before the election. The NHS is still in existence There’s more crap to dump in the rivers The transport system is still working There’s still more fossil fuel to burn There’s still an economy that’s not quite ruined Some people can still pay their way And feed their family And pay their mortgage/rent And most importantly, there’s still some money left to siphon off to your mates. The list of unfinished business goes on. So come on you blues, time isn’t on your side,,, but you can still do it if you put Johnson behind you and concentrate on finishing job!
The Sun have mentioned it. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/22710958/boris-johnson-rishi-sunak-government-move-on-sun-says/
Against my better judgement I clicked on that link and as expected read a load of utter tripe This is about a prime minister who demonstrably lied to parliament at least 9 times ( its a lot more but lets ignore that for now) The Sun lists his "achievements" and the fact he was hampered by covid and the ukraine war and states the comittee failed to take these into account!! quite rightly as they are not relevant - the question is did he lie in parliament - the answer is clearly yes They also overlook the fact that he was never getting a 90 day suspension or his pass revoked until he came out last week with all his Kangaroo court stuff. Not really worth any more comment
Massive difference is that he was the Prime Minister, he was supposed to be controlling the rest, not joining in and then lying about it.
It is unprecedented what Johnson has done in his time as PM, please don’t make it a ‘they’re all the same’ type of mantra, they really aren’t.
Are you suggesting it's better to normalise the lying or would it be better to start calling them out for it like they just did with Bozo?
Bozo and Churchill should not be mentioned in the same sentence, stanza, not even in the same chapter. Churchill told lies for good reasons, Bozo tells lies because he knows no other way. Churchill was a hard worker, he would work late into the night, he annoyed his staff as they had to stay up late with him, Boris is lazy, he doesn't bother turning up to his own meetings, he leaves the details to others, he has no strategy or grand ideas. Churchill understood that allies and friends were needed to achieve his aims, Bozo doesn't care who he screws over as long as it's not himself that gets the blame for anything. Churchill worked for the common good, Bozo is self-serving, it's all about himself.
It’s really about Johnson’s total contempt for Parliamentary procedure and convention , he consistently refused to alter the records when he had said something in PMQ’s or a debate that was blatantly untrue
Much of what we think we know about Churchill comes from his own autobiographies. He was certainly one of the first to cement his legacy on his own terms by exaggerating the good and ignoring the bad parts of his life.
Like everyone who has ever lived Churchill got things wrong, did things he shouldn’t have and held views which subsequent generations find distasteful but he played a major role in ensuring the UK stayed in the war in 1940 and that American opinion swung in favour of supporting us, and without that we wouldn’t be able to express opinions on politicians today.
Definitky so. Ask the welsh miners what they think of Churchill and you’ll get a very different viewpoint
I'm well aware of Churchill's shortcoming, he was a Tory after all, but, he had the good points to go with that as well.
