So long as he doesn't try and spin this as progressing his career.......superb sporting opportunity...... always wanted to coach in Saudi BS.....etc.
Just say you've done it for the money and we're fine with it, who wouldn't do the same. I know a couple who've just gone out there for 6 years, working in recruitment on The Line city that's being built in the desert, tripled their salaries.

Personally I wouldn’t but can totally understand why people do. Plenty of my acquaintances have gone out to Dubai etc, earned double their salary, plus tax free, paid off their mortgage and come back for a better standard of living over here.

Not entirely sure why Gerrard needs to do it mind ..

Just so long as people understand just how different things are out there and adapt to their surroundings. We have a customer in Dubai and I spent 2 weeks working out there. Whilst I thoroughly enjoyed it and the people I worked with were fantastic, it really was an eye opener. Financially, lose your job and you can very quickly get into real trouble. They don't do mortgages out there because borrowing money is anti Islamic so a lot of financial transactions are still done by cheque. A s a result, bouncing a cheque is a very serious offence for which you can be jailed. Apparently, according to my customer contacts, it is quite common for foreign workers who are about to bounce their rent cheque to drive to the airport, abandon the car and get the hell out of there before it becomes apparent, never to return.

Was talking to a company in Qatar before Christmas. Basic package was 10x the one I was on & included free private education for my two kids.

Makes you think about your morals, must admit.

yes I’ve read about this - apparently there’s loads of abandoned cars stacked up next to the airport - wasn’t sure if it was an apocryphal tale or not though…

it wouldn’t be for me, but I understand why people do it - vaguely similar to mates who did medical trials at uni for a wedge of cash…. sort of
