BBC have just launched a big production new doc about the troubles in Northern Ireland over the last century, or so.. A subject they tended to resist, to protect their ‘impartiality’.. But which channel 4 tackled head on, regardless of consequences. As they do with most difficult subjects.. So, as the beeb airs their thing tonight at 9pm.. 4 screen Independence Day on their film channel. As ironic humour goes, that’s pretty special.. Or am I overthinking again.?
That’s a very rude thing to say about our sisters & brothers from across the Irish sea. My Mam was half, 3rd generation Alien, I’ll have you know..
So does that make you quarter. 4th generation alien?. Wentworth. Be on your guard. Infiltrator on the loose.
Watched the ch4 program last night. Easy to see why it all kicked off when you had citizens of the UK being discriminated they way they were. Catholics even denied a vote. Which I did not realise. British media cover up here. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
The story of Ireland is the story of the Empire but much closer to home - remember Ireland was part of the UK for 2 centuries. At least 2 genocides, abuse, mistreatment and generally bad actions from those in power. We even opened concentration camps there in the 70s.
Wow a lot in there I did not know. Knew about the potato famine which the uk govt allowed to happen and help starve the people of Ireland.
Crikey, I wasn’t aware of the prison camps either. Apparently hundreds were arrested and given internment virtually overnight.
