I can see him doing well if the players buy into his methods. Good luck to him he was brilliant for us.
West Brom deserved all they got after getting rid of him, and replacing him with bent nosed Bruce. Weren't they in the top 6 at the time ?. He commanded respect from the players, and they went that extra few miles for him. He might have ruffled a few feathers but who cares, he was brought in to do a 'job', after Struber left us facing up to another relegation battle.
Should go down well with the Watford fans, he's widely regarded as Palace's worst ever player. That's like us getting Franny Jeffers as manager I guess.
Did he try for Mads or Helik at West Brom? Though, it wouldn’t surprise me to see him go for Morris if Luton don’t go up, or Dike.
Found out earlier he's cousins with Emannuel Emenike, for some strange reason I used to really enjoy watching him play. Remember him playing in the African cup of nations years ago. Apparently he married the lady who represented Nigeria in the Miss World contest...
Would Murray really leave Fylde after winning promotion with them? Can't see it personally mate. He'd be on a fair whack as well to be fair.
One of the best head coaches we had. However he dropped on the perfect set of players for how he wanted to play with us. If Watford don’t have those players he’ll struggle because he’s not adaptable
Exactly, we had been working towards an identity of a team that presses high with an intensity about it for years before his appointment. Watford recently appointed Roy Hodgson. The Watford fans won’t stand for the style of play, unless they’re comfortably top 2 either.
I really don`t remember thinking that I was watching poor football under Val. The highlights for me were the away game at Brentford but particularly the game at Bournemouth where Val`s changes at half-time transformed the game.
Me too. He also (and that team) helped get me through some pretty dark days in the pandemic and I will be forever grateful to him for that!
This forum was very divided on the playing style at the time. I didn't have an issue with it. Some good, some bad, some ugly. But it meant that we competed when not playing well, and were very good when we did play well. Trouble is, we were a side battling against teams with much higher budgets. West Brom wanted more, and as it turned out, foolishly, but so will Watford. Val won't care, because he knows he'll be paid off in a few months anyway.
I never really understand how playing with such a high line can ever be described as boring. With the way some used to describe it you would think they were watching a Kevin Blackwell side
Dike is injured again for a while so doubt he'll be on the move again. Hope big Val does well with em but with how trigger happy Watford are at sacking managers I doubt he'll get time to bring in his own players and implement his own style.
I’m fairly sure they have a lot of loanees so I think he will het a chance to bring his own lads in. Wonder if he brings Mowatt in.
