If people enjoy it, fair enough. I think its total kak though, looks out of date for this day and age and costs money that could be spent on better things. If I'm watching something like this it would be the remembrance parade - that does bring a genuine tear to the eye
Westminster Abbey hasn’t been a Catholic Church for nearly 500 years. It has been Anglican since the 16th century. The previous 200 years of the 700 you refer to, Anglicanism didn’t exist and we were a Catholic country.
In all fairness, I think it has been said to be costing nearer to £100million than the figure of £250million that has only been touted by anti-monarchy republican groups. That would be about £1.50 each. I’m not a massive royalist, I’m not massively anti-monarchy either. It is all a bit much today for my taste - but not everyone’s. And the argument about the cost is a bit daft. It’s literally copper coins realistically. And it’s the first coronation in seventy years - the next one likely to be about twenty years away as well and that’s if they even bother for William. I said this the other day on a thread mentioning the cost of the coronation when nurses are striking; I’m more appalled at the profiteering and greed of the government and it’s fans than one off spending on this. The overinflated profits of BP announced the other day; plenty of others like it, and a government that refuse to fairly tax the profits of these people, or introduce a fairer level of taxation from the highest earning and richest in society. There’s plenty of money in this country for everybody to be paid a fair wage and nobody to need a food bank, and the rich would still be rich if they contributed more fairly. A paltry £100million on pomp and ceremony that a decent proportion of the country strongly support wouldn’t matter to anyone if they did that. I’ll not hold my breath.
