That "knack of being in the right place" was mostly down to his pace. He always looked slightly over weight but he would beat most players over 10 or 20 yards when there was a goal scoring chance at the end of it - and he nearly always stuck it in the net. Wonderful player.

The writer of that article says he was signed for "a mere £25,000". I'm not sure where he got that figure from because the fee published at the time was £40,000. Big-ish money for us but an absolute bargain as it turned out.

I like that story he tells about a fan asking "err who is he, and what about these great players that we/Allan (Clarkie) was going to sign ?".

How was he the world’s worst defender? The opposition couldn’t score if he kept sticking the ball in their net

Interesting contrast between Ronnie and the other Reds player in the photograph.

Ronnie - to quote one Yorkshire Television commentator: “The silky skills of the chunky Scot”. Sorry, Redders, but he’s the best Reds player in my opinion (for what that’s worth) in 55 years of watching them. Absolute class. Terrified defenders. Unbelievable goal scoring record, especially from midfield. Will stop there as I could be writing all week about how good he was.

The other player had none of those qualities, but without question he was the hardest Reds player I’ve seen in my time. A true warrior in the old Fourth Division, up against some real cloggers on glue pots of pitches. Alan “Animal” Little was a ferocious tackler who regularly would take out two opposition players at the same time. Gave his all for the club and chipped in with a few goals. In the modern game, he’d be yellow carded every five minutes - even for fair tackles, an art we’re gradually losing from the game.

I have watched the reds for over 60 years & for me Ronnie is the best I have ever seen in a reds shirt, the mere mention of his name makes the hair on my arms stand up , there is a coronation next weekend but in my eyes there is only one king , arise king Ronnie !!!!!!

Ronnie Glavin is my hero, but when I was asked to compare him to Barry Bannon by a fowl, I had to admit that Bannon just shaded it as the better midfielder.
Although I did add that Ronnie, at 72 is knocking on a bit now!

When Animal tackled them they tended to go up before they went down!
