Barnsley Museums have just released an amazing digital reconstruction of Eldon Street in the 60's Background Link
That is fantastic. I'd love to know how they did that for the moving images etc, I'd also love to see around the old market the 80s.
Really clever but I was hoping they would go down Midland Street and along the market stalls and Gas Nook. Maybe that’s for a different day
As someone who grew-up in the sixties, but now lives far away, that was awesome. Brought a nostalgic tear to my eyes.
That was fantastic !! So many memories of old Barnsley. Seeing the names of the shops that have probably long since disappeared.
That’s excellent. A lot of that was still the same in the 70s..and 80s. I was pretty sure the Odeon only had one screen in the early 80s. The bigger downstairs screen. Am I wrong?
I remember going into Frank Birds for a formal jacket. Salesman did a brilliant "suits you sir' impression and convinced me I looked suave and sophisticated and it was such a perfect fit. I was 17. When I got home me mam took one look and informed me it would have fitted the elephant man better. Too embarrassed to take it back. I never went in Birds again and never wore the jacket again.
Love the cars in this clip. Green one a Riley Elf I think and the one parked on Eldon St an orange Ford Anglia Real motoring in them days! You always made two purchases, 1) the car 2) Haynes manual to go with it
Remember parked up late evening in my best going out clothes under Cudworth Bridge in heavy rain lying underneath my MG midget without a torch trying to reconnect the fuel pump lead which had disconnected with a river of water soaking me through. Those were the days...not!
I can only imagine they travelled back in time, like they did to film the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.
