Come a long way Orient in a short space of time. It was dark days and bad ownership when they dropped out of the EFL.
First Division for one season 1962/63 and spent a lot of seasons at Second Division level. Glad to see them climbing back.
Went a few years ago when we drew 0-0 in on of Little Lees tenure. A game I remember more for the pre match pub which had a load of gypsys on a night out with the lasses wearing little more than micro bikinis and jewellery Torn between ogling and risking a beating from the lads and averting my eyes and staring at my pint.
Remember our 0-0 draw there at L.Orient in '15, when we were in the Play off places with ten games left. Then Johnson mucks about with the team that had just won 7 games in a row, and our momentum was totally destroyed from then.
Yeah people forget we still had ten games left when we jumped into sixth that season. Didn't we get as high as fifth after beating Walsall and drawing with Preston or have I dreamt that?
1 good game in 10 had plenty of talent great feet could pick a pass at times. Often lacked application I think.
I rated Moncur but he wasn't a midfielder. Just a number 10. A bit like Dan Cowley for me. Fleet footed in and around the box. Needed a centre forward in front of him and two players running midfield for him. Should have got more of a chance here but Hecky didn't believe in number 10's.
Ponty, I can't remember if we reached 5th, but after the L.Orient game we were still 6th and in the Play off places, with nine games left. Then we gained a couple of good draws with promotion chasing Preston, and the leaders Bristol City (managed by Steve the dinosaur Cotterill lol). But other teams were winning while we were drawing, and then came the disastrous Easter weekend, and our Play off/Promotion hopes had gone. But it just shows how momentum can be ruined by just 1 game.
I always think what happened in 2015/16 should have happened in 2014/15 had we not appointed streaky Johnson.
I could go on at great length about this, but I'd better not lol. Remember though it came after we sacked Wilson, and Johnson took us on what looked like a Promotion winning run. And sticking with the thread subject, I think George Moncur scored against us for Colchester, on that Easter Monday.
He got a lengthy run with freedom to get forward alongside Potts & Joe Williams in central midfield. He’s not good enough to be a regular in the championship & never has been as proven throughout his career. Not fit enough & a liability off the ball
