At the start of the season somebody asked where we would be happy with the team finishing

I think I said at the time that I have no idea where we would finish or where I would be happy with us finishing because I had no idea really how good our squad was compared to league one squads. Top of the table wooden to surprised me bottom of the table wouldn't have surprised me.

What was important was that we improved in January. If we were near the bottom we had to improve enough to stay up, mid table, improve to aim for the playoffs, playoffs improve for automatic.

In the past we have sold key players and weakened our squad in January and made us a much worse team or we've had managers settling for 0-0 draws every week to just do enough to get us over the line. Players going through the motions I the second half of the season as Wolfe admitted last year.

This season we haven't weakened the squad in January, I don't think we massively improved it either but players came in and that's better than players going out (aren't I a footballing genius). More importantly than that though the manager has attacked nearly every game in the second half of the season and gone for it showing real intent and ambition and apart from one or two loanees who's heart doesn't seem to be in it the squad and players duff picks each week have so far given it their all.

There's a 6 point gap with 7 games to go and one of those games is against the team currently occupying second who were too scared to play us with just 2 players out. And we've got to that position despite having point after point stolen off us by criminally negligent bad decisions by incompetent or corrupt referees.

There's everything to play for and absolutely no reason that with the effort the players and manager have been putting in in recent months that they can't overturn those 6 points.

7 games, 7 cup finals. 21 points. Keep at it and keep the heads up, players AND fans.

Missing out on the automatic spots or even losing in the playoffs won't be a failure, there are some very good teams in this league and being up there with the best of them is a credit to everyone but absolutely smashing these last few games and going up as champions would be no less than every player, manager and decision maker at the club deserves.

Sure we can look at negatives and tell the players they're **** and that playoffs aren't even nailed on and automatic is impossible like the ever joyful dragon tyke but I prefer to remember that in the seven games from mid January onwards we closed in on the champions by seven points. This time we only need to do so by 6.

I think that's non knee-jerk commonsense. There's always a big picture and some people never put their specs on to look at it

Would have taken top 10. Rebuilding and all that. Playoffs was beyond what I hoped for. To be in with a chance of automatic never entered my head

Some were even talking of relegation before season started.

I would have taken the play offs at the start I still think duffs worked wonders with a limited squad.

I thought mid table was realistic I’d have been happy with a top 10 and delighted with a top 6 place. Top 2 didn’t seem realistic. Will now be miffed if we finish lower than 4th
