The tiktok hearing is absolutely laughable.

A few of my favourite quotes so far

Tiktok: The only face data that we collect is when you have filters, say to have sunglasses on your face. We need to know where your eyes are.
Senator: why do you need to know where the eyes are?

Senator: if I have the tiktok app on my phone and my phone is on my home WiFi network does tiktok access that network?
Tiktok: it will have to access the network to get connection to the internet
    Senator: why?

Senator: has tiktok at any time provided the Chinese government with precise GSPP information (she means GPS) collected from US users inter ellaellogarythems yellow imehavina

Tiktok: American data stored on American soil by an American company overseas by American personnel. We call this initiative 'project texas'
Senator: Please rename your project. We stand for freedom and transparency and we don't want your project.

It does make you wonder why this version of tiktok is banned in China, and only educational type content is put up.

And there are studies into this type of service, the affect it has on the brain. Cant remember what it was exactly but wasn't great reading. My younger siblings and cousins etc cannot pit their phone down for a second.

Because China do control what their citizens access so their app has all sorts of restrictions on it. The fact this is a different app actually strengthens tiktoks argument that it isn't controlled by China.

No clue mate, no idea. How come it's banned over here for politicians and government officials? I know companies can store all your data etc etc. But surely in that case all social media type things should be banned then for officials?

Same reason as America is kicking off basically.

Tiktok is an American company but its parent company is bytedance based in China (but registered in the Cayman Islands). Much like they do with most Chinese tech companies it means they automatically assume that the Chinese government are behind them and are using them to spy.

Personally I think it's just xenophobia and paranoia. Bytedance for example is owned 40% by Americans, 20% by it's 2 Chinese original owners and the remaining 40% by investors throughout the world. Also 3 of the 5 executives of bytedance are American. There are a lot of none Chinese shareholders and executives that would have to be in on it in order for it to be a secret Chinese spying device.

I would argue with your title statement. We have plenty in our parliament that would give them a run for their money.

As per my post above where some Floridians regard Michelangelo as a 'Purveyor of Porn' I had a thought.
These websites that filter pornographic materiale through A.I.... Would It:
    a) block Michaelangelo's statue of David given it is in White marble.
    b) block it if somebody with the correct software and skill colourised it to make it appear flesh colour.
What is the x-over point where art and culture becomes porn. (I hope those Americans that complained never visit Piazza Nettuno in Bologna as they would be apoplectic).
