So as we've decided VPNs are bad things due to it being OK to have the ability to use one, but if I use it to watch football at 3pm, I'm a wrong un or it might be the TV companies fault for allowing their service to be broadcast with a VPN ........ is it OK to watch sky with one cos Murdochs a tw@t?
To be honest, I don’t have a view on folk using VPNs. There’s no actual law against it I don’t think. But the fact Rupert Murdoch is a tw@t has no bearing on whether you should defraud sky. He sold it nearly five years ago to Comcast.
A VPN is just a tool to use while sitting at your PC or on the smartphone. I pay my annual subscription to keep the VPN active. I pay my match day subscription to iFollow, with some of that going to Barnsley FC, and this brilliant tool has enabled me to watch virtually every match home and away for the last three seasons. That is to say I watch those home games on my home screen that I either choose not to attend, or cannot attend for some reason, even though I had a season ticket up to this season. I started down the VPN road when I was living in Spain for months at a time and found that I could not access things like BBC Player and Sky Sports (I was a subscriber to Sky by the way, but after BREXIT somebody decided subscribers living abroad could not use it). Therefore the only way to access such services, including Amazon Prime and Netflix (both of which I subscribe to) was to get a VPN, teleport myself to the UK , and thus be able to watch things I had paid for. Before anyone chips in with "what about the BBC" I have had a TV licence for my whole adult life, valid at my many different addresses around the country. I didn't need the VPN to watch Reds matches while in Spain because I simply purchased my online match tickets as an overseas subscriber. Now that I am permanently back in the UK I decided to keep up the VPN subscription purely for football reasons. I've not been an away match traveller for some time so this is a brilliant way to watch the lads winning all over the country. I shall continue buying match day subscriptions until something, or somebody, blocks me from doing so. I am not defrauding anybody and the club gets a small amount of money from me for those matches that I cannot attend. I've been to Oakwell a fair number of times this season and, OF COURSE, I shall be there tonight.
Yes, clubs want people to attend matches. Pay for tickets, buy beers and pies, programs, etc, etc. But not all fans can. Some are working. Some live across the country. Some aren't physically up to spending 2-3 hours in the freezing cold rain in January. Some can't afford to travel to every - or even any - games. Some have other commitments. I can't see why clubs can't give fans an option to watch the team home and away via iFollow - either as part of a season ticket deal or on a match-by-match basis. It would surely bring in more money than not offering it.
I agree with all of that but it seems some on here think it's wrong to want to watch your team in the comfort of your home. I know it's not the same as actually being there but we can't all travel every week to attend matches. If I lived in the town I would be there every match, health permitting. As I don't then I choose not to travel sometimes. I see nothing wrong with then paying the £10/€11 fee required to watch the Reds wherever they are playing. I've spent plenty this season and have seen almost every game home and away. Don't see the problem, myself.
Me neither. I have a Season ticket but live 200 miles away so I cant get to all our home games and dont even try to go to away games in the north Id far rather be at a game and always attend in person when I can. If I cant the options are dont watch - the club gets nothing, Illegal stream, the club gets nothing, Ifollow over VPN - the club gets some income. I really struggle to see why its such a heinous crime
Clearly it’s NOT a crime despite the strange opinions of some on here. I shall carry on supporting BFC every way I can. Same as I have since 1962!
