I remember many years ago at Scunthorpe being near to Darren, he was playing for us that day, and I was stunned by his actual physical size ... he was fkin enormous !!! My first thought was, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near him on a football field. One big lad !
I remember him getting sent off against donny, and turning the game for us. Sean O'Dismal wasn't happy that day
My main takeaway from the game at Hillsborough was that Wednesday didn't like being hassled and harried for the ball. They didn't deviate from patient build up play from the back, and on the two occasions where they did go a little more direct, they should probably have scored. I spoke to my cousin last week who's a season ticket holder, he says they're completely different now. They're much more direct, without being long ball, but look to get the ball up to Smith much quicker than they did back then. If I remember right, that was one of Smith's first games for them. Not too dissimilar to us to be fair. It could very well be a case of the unstoppable force vs the immovable object on Tuesday night.
Interesting. From watching the RAO 'Away End' YouTube thing this week, their guy seems to say very different things to that. He describes them as a team that isn't direct, plays the ball out from the back and has a high press through the middle. I think the battle in midfield could decide the game. They're very worried about Byers being available and/or fully fit. Sounds like he's their Luca.
He was at the Portsmouth game and I walked down the hill to Oakwell with him. He’s a ******* giant of a bloke. Seemed a sound bloke tbf.
Interesting that the report comments on their unbeaten run and defensive quality but appears to miss the recent table showing us at the top of the scoring chart ... Reporters eh !!!!!
there's no getting away from 23 games unbeaten, whichever way you cut it. it's a phenomenal run they're on. they must feel unbeatable, so I get their confidence. we'd be exactly the same. people also saying how poor they looked against bolton. we didn't look great against Wycombe either. I don't think either of those games have a bearing on how it pans out tomorrow. I'm going for a war of attrition and a 1-0 game, but any result wouldn't be too much of a surprise.
I think when we played them last, they overplayed out from the back. They were more content with holding onto possession rather than dictating play, whereas now they're using it to try and force the game more. I guess their performance against us was ultimately an anomily, they've had few (if any) other performances like that this season. Had a quick look on their forum earlier and they seem to be preparing for no Windass or Byers which would be huge for us. For me there's few better players in the league than Byers and Windass is their (joint) top scorer. I certainly think we're good enough to give them a good game even when full strength, but I'd take the little bonuses any day of the week.
Massive is correct. As anyone who went to the game at Donny when he was playing for us and he had to change his shorts on the pitch can confirm.
Well last season there was plenty in blue and white wanting him gone... To be fair he always seems a nice bloke I remember when val left and the Wendy's went down I was hoping we would have gone I'm for him but we went for schopp instead
