Hadn't realised that many clubs were in relegation trouble. Only 3 points between 12th (palace). And a relegation spot 18th. 5 points off bottom spot.
He had a good start to the season, loked a proper manager and Palace were playing some great stuff. Not sure just how bad it has got for them as I don't really follow, but on the face of it it looks a bit knee-jerk?
It wasn't that long ago he was being tipped as Arsenal replacement coach....fortunately for them the gunners kept with their man
Crazy decision. Granted they've had a tough run of games and not produced but there's enough quality in that team and he's a good enough manager for them to avoid relegation and kick on next season. I think they've got a run of games playing the bottom half which should have seen them consolidate in mid table though who knows what will happen now. Bonkers indeed and even more so if they end up with Frank or Stevie - in which case they'll deserve to go down.
To be fair, they haven't won a single league game since the start of the new year. However, after listening to Palace fans, they seem largely positive still, saying they've had a hard run and they've seen what Vieira can do etc etc. Surprised to see him go personally but suppose that's just the cut throat nature of the premier league these days
Agree that it seems harsh particularly on their form last year. However, before this weeks game they didn’t have 1 shot on target for 3 consecutive matches… about 20 years since that has happened
Reminds me of the Flicker escape season, when C.Palace helped us to send Peterbrough down. C.Palace went up that season, but Ian Holloway was sacked the following season in the Prem.
Hasn't won game in 2023 and just lost the gull derby. He had to go. Another top quality player who isn't a top manager.
Disagree with this, can't just look at certain stats and not the context. I actually think he will be a quality manager later on down the line, feel a little sorry for him.
Yeah he's favourite, I think he will keep them up with the talent he has at his disposal, although I thought that about Vieira too, people said Vieira had a good season last year, and he's only 3 points behind where they were last season at this stage of the season. Linked with Carrick too but doubt he would go there with how well Middlesbrough are doing; could potentially be a good signing for start of next year depending on where each club are!
I'd have stuck with Patrick. Think they'd stay up with him, it's not like they're leaking goals, just having trouble scoring them!
I agree, if they spent Zaha's wages on a striker end of the season, they'd be absolutely fine next season too imo! They have some very exciting young players - Eze, Olise, Guehi, Mitchell etc, if they did go down and kept majority of the squad, they'd certainly go straight back up
