They aren't migrants though. There has been fraud in Nigeria going back to the 80's. It is well publicised & comes from the rich folks over there that have money from colonial days, or organised crime, which is rife. Maybe this is just a lighthearted comment, as reality for many is sadly different. Homosexuality is illegal in Nigeria. They face 14 years imprisonment. Not really that cool. They have enforced it due to colonial laws that still remain in place. I'm sure you are in agreement with me that is wrong?

2 statistics on the BBC.... Sunak's Govt is giving £2m to the French Govt to bolster shore patrols to stop 'small boats' at source. It is costing (according to treasury figures) £2bn to house refugees claiming asylum in hotels.
Here is an idea... why not use the £2bn in the first instance to set up a system for asylum claimants to apply before they risk their lives? This would include staffed centres overseas in relevant regions to process claims in a timely manner and manned by fully trained personnel. £2bn would go a long way to covering the cost. Successful applicants would then be able to arrive safely on ferries or via the tunnel link. This may not completely eliminate people smuggling as a few unsuccessful applicants may still 'chance their arm' but if all cases were treated fairly there would be justification for returning 'failed' migrants.

Well it's good luck to the hapless Sunak and Braverman (not intelligent - whatever her qualifications might be) trying to strike any deal with France in the week when they have signaled they would go against the European Human Rights Convention. If I were Macron I would be asking them who has the problem?

Edit To my previous post. £500m is the amount Sunak is giving Macron to stop the boats. Given the fact that patrolling French police have been witnessed as watching migrants launching boats and saying ' bon chance' rather than apprehending them it doesn't bode well. Money well spent then. Or not!
