Yeah, I saw some footage of it yesterday, pure brain dead thuggery. The only thing I can see about it is that folk who are there actually want to be part of it so probably no ‘innocents’ involved. Can’t find it now to post link, if I was able to that is.

I took part in this event about 20 years ago now. And whilst it was still pretty physical, it wasn't like the videos I've seen of this year's event. Sign of the proper w*** modern world we are within, sadly.

It's actually one of my favourite experiences. I was 19 or 20 at the time, with a few mates. We were there about six hours and the 'ball' had moved about 300 yards. I touched it, briefly, once. It was just a huge Rugby scrum and it was stuck in a ditch (the scrum) for the last hour we were there so we left and had a night out nearby.

It was genuinely a different game back then. More like Rugby/Football mixed in with tug-of-war etc. Last couple of years I've seen these videos of it in its current form and it's disgraceful really.

But like I say, it's the way of the world.

    Lies, greed and violence everywhere.

That clip's fake - they're actually fighting over the last tomato at Morrisons.

You’d think there was several cases for serious assault from the video …. particularly the guy in colourful trousers kicking out.
I suppose they all agree to take part so if they get a bad injury, it’s tough toenails.

I'd like to think the authorities will look at that footage and think 'yeah it's gone a bit far now this'. nothing in that video was normal. if it's the same one that is. the one I saw yesterday, was people losing their minds outside a William Hill bookies. some of those blows were insane. only a matter of time before someone gets seriously or even fatally injured.

I get the argument of 'it's up to them', but surely there's a social responsibility here, to protect people from their own stupidity? I also can't imagine people wake up and think 'I'm off to the atherstone games today. I might end up in a coma or dead, but we all know what we're signing up for'.

Someone would probably call me a woke snowflake like, for thinking that, but thanus...

Surely the police must step in and do something about this.
However I won't be holding my breath.
I also hope the thug in the orange trousers and blue polo shirt gets his come uppance.:(

Ok, there's five or six in that clip that need arresting. Pig sh*t ignorant the lot of them. Viewing that in conjunction with the thread about the anti immigrant demonstrations makes you despair.
Farrige and his disgusting right wing mates are driving the country to ruin.

I think it should be Ashbourne, not that it matters.

The winner was on Jeremy Vine this morning & said the man throwing punches was part of his team & only trying to protect him.

That's the one I attended 20 years ago. And maybe that still is a decent event.

Which one Paul. As it appears there are 2 separate venues. Bit rough as always in Asbourne nothing out of the usual. Guess that would possibly be the one that YT went to many yrs ago. ?
but fecckin mental in the one in Atherstone.

Nothing untoward that I can find. In fact the opposite.
