There seems to be a theme across the world with a few people prospering and the rest struggling.

This same theme lends itself to football and specifically the split of revenue between the haves and the have nots.

When the premier league started the EFL had media revenue of around 75% of the premier league (admittedly split between 3x as many clubs). Roll forward 30 years the EFL rights amount to a shade less than 6%. Or, put another way 72 clubs share the same as roughly one and a half premier teams.

Lots of kick back by fans and the media at the mention of a super league but we already have one.

    Something needs to change….

Too many people getting too rich, nothing will change, it's worth too much.

I said it in a different post, but there's little wonder why European clubs want a Super league. Relegation-threatened clubs spending hundreds of millions on other leagues best players, Chelsea spending more than Italy, France, Spain & Germany combined. Its insane.

Transfers and huge cash pots from TV rights. It's a massive game of musical chairs. One day the music will stop and some clubs will be stuffed full of players who cost hundreds of millions of pounds in fees and wages, unable to shift them on.

The last Sky deal (or the one before that) was disastrous for football. Not only did it cause such a disparity in funding it also led to owners chasing the coin by committing to spending well beyond what the club can sustain. All in the context of a parachute payments system, designed to restrict the number of clubs that can realistically get into the top flight, because the PL wants promoted clubs to spend to compete.

Part of me hopes the Super League thing happens. They can sod off, and devaluing the PL may not be the worst thing.

Was that the one where the increase for every PL club meant that they could have let every fan in free of charge for the duration of the deal and still been UP on the previous deal. And in profit.

Not saying that the money isn,t ridiculous in football but that goes for most sports and entertainment but people were saying the same 45yrs ago when trevor francis was transfered. On the plus side the money has attracted many great foreign players but sadly many crap overpaid players too.
