I dont know how to post it. But if someone could. Please post the video of the horrendous decision last night inflicted on port vale. Re the penalty. A shocker.
Apparently ref was right (bizarrely). Can't play advantage where it is a red card offence - in this case handball on the line. Is that right? Seems to be consensus on stuff I've been reading....
https://www.thefa.com/football-rule.../football-11-11/law-12---fouls-and-misconduct "Advantage should not be applied in situations involving serious foul play, violent conduct or a second cautionable offence unless there is a clear opportunity to score a goal" Pretty sure there was a clear opportunity to score a goal.
Apparently having reread it should be a goal and then a yellow card as not denying a goalscoring opportunity as goal has been scored. Can't be a goal plus red. I always thought red has to stop play else the person to whom the red should have been shown could then commit another red card offence while play continues without further sanction. Clearly a terrible decision. Worse than ours on sat though? Hard to say at least they got a pen and red card not a free kick with no card.....
The ref most definitely wasn’t right by my interpretation of the rules - and the offence, whilst a red card offence at the split second he did it, should have been yellow carded after awarding the goal, a yellow for deliberate handball, as he in effect did not prevent a goalscoring opportunity as the goal was immediately scored. The law about not applying advantage relates to serious foul play or violent conduct red card offences as far as I know, not handball. So, so poor - and as bad if not worse as the one we suffered.
If the Ref blows his whistle instantly, then play stops at that moment so how can a goal scored after blowing count?
There used to be a 6 second rule to decide if advantage could be gained but that has been scrapped maybe ?? It may not be 6 seconds but it is/was “ a few “
I didn’t think he’d blown the whistle before the ball was put into the back of the net but even if he had, he shouldn’t have. Doesn’t make it any less poor. He literally had to leave it a second.
TBH I don’t if he did and it was a genuine question as I don’t know what the rules are. Could the defending team claim they stopped playing because the Ref blew as an example.
Yet another example of rank bad reffing. Would still say ours was worse though. They at least had a pen and an extra man advantage. We got a free kick that ended up in the top row.
Its just dreadful refereeing - hard to say which was worse ours or theirs They at least got a pen and the offender was sent off but it was an even more blatant error. Ours didn't even get a yellow and arguably he should have been given a red as he definitely denied a clear goal scoring opportunity
As an aside another rule Football could take from rugby would be to award a penalty goal - In rugby if foul play almost certainly stops a try being scored the ref awards a penalty try anyway In cases like the Port Vale one the ref should have the option to award a penalty goal. Clearly that doesnt apply in our game at Portsmouth
