It's neither good or bad news to be honest. I'm not criticising anyone. The extra year in our favour clause was in all their contracts and if they performed well it was always going to be invoked. It's not something the players really have a say in so it's no sign of their long term commitment.
The club probably can't afford to offer them all longer term deals at the moment, without knowing what league we'll be in next season. though I suspect that Cotter has been signed to replace Williams in the summer (not this window). For me, this is neither good or bad news. I would've been amazed had the club not triggered the extra year.
I stand by what I've posted. Had the club failed to extend the contracts, complaints would've been rife. However, they have extended and some folk are putting their own spin on it to suit their own agenda. A few years ago, the club received criticism when they didn't extend the contracts of Hourihane, Winnall & Bree. To me, it appears the club has learned lessons from that time.
How is it spin? They've said they've triggered the contracts, keeping the players in contract until the end of next season. They haven't said anything other than exactly what's happened. Is it actually you that's spinning things, by suggesting the players are somehow unhappy to have the contracts extended? Out of interest, what else would you have preferred the Club to do? Not trigger the clause?
They haven't extended the contracts though. They always ran until 2024 should the option be exercised. Just simple due diligence for me.
Did Hourihane, Winnall and Bree have one year options in the club's favour that they could trigger? I thought they were just in the last year's of their contracts. Difference here is that the club didn't need to negotiate this one year extension with the players. Would've been amazed had they not triggered it.
I'm not putting any spin on it at all, just pointing out facts. We've been putting the extra year clause in for a good few years now, after losing Winnall and Hourihane for a pittance. Invoking the extra year with these three was a no brainer and only what we all surely expected to happen. I stand by saying it's news, neither good or bad. Just factual news.
I didn't say you in particular had put a spin on it. The example I used was to offer a reason why I thought the club had learned lessons from past experiences and I think they have.
I think that's fair dos. still, it's good news in so far as a lot of people probably didn't realise the clauses were there, and it gives us a bit more stability. was only a few days ago, this place was in meltdown about Jordan Williams definitely leaving for PNE in January. obviously I'm not naive enough to think the extension would prevent us from still selling Jordan or Mads in Jan - but I'm assuming it puts us in a much better position if someone did come in. for anyone (not you) to criticise the Club on the back of this, is just properly weird.
