Watching BBC Breakfast and the subject is failed deliveries by Evri/ Amazon etc...says these companies are claiming they've delivered when they clearly haven't. Consumer guy sez your claim is against the retailer but they just claim they sent it to courier and most times just ignore ya. I think the issue is the amount of deliveries the drivers are expected to do..look at the amount if illegal parking these couriers do, especially notice this around the hospital. they block drives and in the estates just block the road cos they've simply too many to deliver safely(one threw the item over the fence and straight into a fishpond).legislation needed to cap the delivery targets for drivers..

I think they need to just start employing drivers mates again.

Trouble is most couriers are self employed

Yeah you'd end up with sub employment.

Have to say, I hear and read about this a lot, yet personally I've never had a problem I can recall, with Amazon, Evri, Hermes or DPD. Always been spot on, and from memory, any time there has been a minor blip, it's been sorted. On several occasions, I've even been automatically refunded, for the inconvenience. I think I must have been very lucky.

Covid was a big help to them as it gave them an excuse not to collect signatures anymore. These days most of them dont even knock - the first you know its been delivered is when you trip over it on the front door step, or when you get an email saying its been delivered.

Though that does at least mean you dont get the we called but you were out lie when they never even tried

Ive never finished up out of pocket. I have had a few occasions when I havent received a delivery but most of those the tracking shows the courier didnt deliver so there is no issue. Also had an occasional knock from a neighbour with a package clearly addressed to us left at theirs

Pretty much my experience. We tend to have deliveries almost daily and on the occasional time something hasn't been delivered then they have refunded.

I bought a trainset from Rails of Sheffield before Christmas. It was supposed to be delivered by Parcel Force. The driver made no attempt to deliver it and didn't leave a card. I found out later that they made no attempt to deliver the item because they don't like reversing into cul de sacs. Luckily my brother in law works for them and took the parcel to his house and delivered it himself. (It was him that knew they hadn't even tried to deliver it).

I have same experience. In fact Amazon have a couple of times refunded me for something ive had delivered.... I even raised it, and as a gesture of goodwill for reporting that I had in fact received the items, they left the refund in place. Happened 3 times (driver hit wrong option by the sounds of it). Shame it was items less than a tenner like

Same here, on 1st name terms with Evri courier he comes that often (Awaits @Stephen Dawson pun)

Never had an issue, now Yodel are a different kettle of fish. Order some designer gear for my son for Christmas, no notification it was out for delivery or anything. Only found out as I went on the website and entered the despatch details. Only to find that it had been delivered to our safe place, which is usually the blue bin round the back. Nope not in there, no photos or anything, no card. Instead of leaving it with the next door who is always in they delivered half way up the street to someone we had never heard of.

Over here, since Covid, Amazon are using far more independents (often turning up in hìre vans) I assume it is to cope with the sheer demand. We still get the odd delivery from the usual main couriers BRT, DHL etc. but a lot of the independents are filling the gaps e.g. we have ordered stuff from Amazon on a Saturday and, insanely they arrive on the Sunday.
I think reliability issues are down to individual drivers. One of our 'regulars' Massimo from BRT is 100% reliable, always smiley, always knocks at the door and hands us parcels whilst one or two just sound the horn, leave the parcel under the loggia or on the wall near the parking are in the garden and drive off (whether we are in or not!)
The worst we had was a failed delivery a couple of years ago -one of the big courier firms- who pulled up on the road, sounded his horn, and before we had even got to the door he drove off. It was a high value item so at least he did not just dump it. Nevertheless., the tracking said address ' incorrect/does not exist' LIE! and worse still failed 2nd attempt also LIE! and item returned to sender - Germany. The item was wanted fairly urgently so the added delay was inconvenient.
Generally though, not sure it is because we are rural they are pretty good and over the past few years upped their game. Even local deliveries from the nearest depots have to cover large distances and many deliveries are a few kilometres apart. It must cost independents a fortune in fuel costs.
