I was thinking of doing the above, but then remembered that I'm not an absolutely massive fanny, so beers it is, woooooo!
You thinking it makes people an absolute fanny for trying to better themselves, makes you the absolute ultimate fanny
I tried it in 2021 and managed to abstain for all 31 days. However, in 2022 I set myself a different target of N number of alcohol-free days per month. I ended up drinking less in 2022 than 2021.
Is this buming club again? My membership has lapsed, think I'll wait til February to renew. Actually, I might give Felching February a miss too and hang on til March.
"Arguably the most important health benefit is a general change in attitude towards alcohol. Simply not having it for a month can make people reconsider their relationship with drink. One study of 857 participants found that 64% drank less alcohol even six months after dry January." And can aid weight loss and lower blood pressure. I think if people are willing, everyone should atleast give it a go once!
I skipped New Year’s Day but will include the 1st of February. I drink far too much all year round so I generally do a month a year just to prove I still can!
Ah, but that's just what a massive fanny would say ;-) (Am trying to work with a hangover so can you respond quietly please, thank you...)
In my option, there's two types of people who do Dry January; 1) People who have a drinking problem; 2) people who use it for attention from others on social media. If anyone feels they really need to spend 1 month off the booze then I'd suggest they have a very unhealthy relationship with it and 1 month off it won't help. They'd need to reduce or stop for a lot longer.
I have done dry January for the last 5 years. Its my annual reset so I can plough copious amounts of Wine down my throat daily for the rest of the year. And I'm a massive fanny.
First person I ever met who did "Dry January" was the landlord of a local back in the early 90s. He'd drink about a gallon a day and smoke like a chimney 11 months of the year then just go dry with both for January. He was in his 60s, serious overweight, coughed regularly until he went through red to purple then blue. I did hear that he died only a few years later...
You're better carrying on drinking the wine, beer, cider accumulated for the festive period until it runs out then starting a fresh from where you leave off. Fads rarely work. It's like all those saddo's you see showing off their under armour or Nike leggings and high vis florescent tops. You know come the 8th January they'll be back in the pant and socks drawer. In our house we drink and eat the excess and simply go back to our normal diet from there. Routine is a good leveller for excess and paranoia it induces.
There is no safe drinking level, drinking causes an imbalance in your dopamine meaning you need more and more alcohol to return to a level state, so long term it contributes to low mood and depressions. It causes several types of cancer as well as induces risky and unwelcome behaviours. It affects every single organ in your body. If you feel that it’s the only “fun” in your life then you need to look at your life not at alcohol as a salve to what’s really wrong. sorry for being so boring.
27th December I was in my local from 4pm until 8pm and it was Welsh National Day. It's a bit of a horse racing pub. It was just me, Laura, George (been to kiddies disco at the club and called in whilst he was having his nap) and the barmaid until the land lord came down to have a drink as we were leaving. There hadn't been anyone in since it opened until we came in. Pubs are dying on their arses.
