Have TBH and say I’m not convinced censorship by Admin is necessarily the right way to go in this example. I’m not condoning comments but often on here when someone says something incorrect, people have corrected them so would ask the question do we lose the opportunity to educate people? I appreciate some will reply with ‘it’s a waste of time’ etc with some but if others learn by reading the corrective comments?
I think that Admin do try to be as liberal as possible in terms of restricting comments, but there are some that go way over the line and merit removal (either of comment/poster/both). I believe there are two such examples on this thread. People should always remember that with rights come responsibilities.
Hi @YTBFC and @orsenkaht How did you make us aware? - I'm catching up and only just read your posts you had informed site admin about this thread but I somehow missed your warnings - I have only been on here sporadically the last couple of days and hadn't read all the posts but wondering how I missed your alerts as I have been around part of the time.
Ive just read through this thread and I just wonder what makes you think that the 2 banned posters would be educated by the replies One the OP I think is really just a WUM looking to stir up trouble and succeeding The other looks to be beyond redemption as any replies are met with responses as bad as the original statements. I don't like banning or censoring but surely the lines have been crossed several times in this thread - I don't see what else we can do
In my case by using the 'Report' facility within the individual posts. I assume they bring matters to the attention of Admin. I wasn't being critical, by the way - I'm sure Admin members have other things to do. I was simply commenting to Stahlrost that I shared his view and had done what I could to point out the offending posts.
Thanks - I will check as I didnt get the alert so something went wrong at least for me - it has worked in the past and I think Gally got the alert so I will check what has gone wrong . What you did was the correct thing to do so any issue is at my side
That's a fair point but in the case of the posters in this thread I think they've proved time and time again that they're immune to education. However, I do think that posters should be given the benefit of the doubt on occasions when posts might be badly or ambiguously worded. A ban should be a last resort after all attempts at "education" have failed.
In the past I've reported posts from time to time, but I've given up as nothing has ever happened. I don't believe that you or other admin members would wilfully ignore reports, so it appears to be a system issue. On the occasions when I've contacted admin privately, they've always responded quickly. You all deserve praise for doing a very difficult job, in the face of some very unpleasant and abusive stuff from time to time. Well done and thank you!
I think the email notifications aren't working Dave hence why we didn't get the reports. Something for me to to look into today. I'm guessing since we moved servers a few weeks back. if you look at the reports there are several in there.
Ah thanks found them - yes there are quite a few in there from yesterday . Will keep checking the reports until the email alert is fixed
Yes I can see it just need to remember to check the reports log regularly for a while until I actively receive alerts directly
I wasn’t referring to the actual posters but others that read the replies. I was just putting out there do we lose an opportunity to inform others who might not know? I know I’ve learnt lots on here from reading two views on posts over the years? I appreciate it’s a balance that has to be constantly walked.
