Taking safety at football grounds advice from SYP is akin to taking tv reception advice from Rod Hull!
Correct. Blaming The Club is more than a little childish and ill-informed. Are we forgetting what happened when we met with them in 2020 ? There was a mini-riot, a fan was injured and one of the police involved took his own life
Yep. but surely this is the same group that let the sheffield Wednesday v sheffield utd game go ahead at 3pm on a Saturday when they were in the same league. not to mention the disaster that Sky funded when we moved Reds v Leeds to 5.30pm on a Saturday....
Unless at some point in the future we move to a different location away from Oakwell it will always be thus. If a 3 pm Saturday kick off at Oakwell was deemed not safe in the past then it will now and it will in future. It’s a geographic thing Edit What ought to happen is that this fixture should be scheduled for an acceptable time and day in the first place instead of repeatedly going the same rescheduling rigmarole which simply generates more and more angst
Probably some truth in that as a reason the Police give but I'm still convinced its ultimately the call of the club.
I’m not sure whose call it is but the point is that if the club insisted on the 3.0pm Sat ko and some one ended up in the morgue as a result then it would be the club that would be fingered for the blame
That was completely different. That was the efl and sky. Game was selected for live coverage and initially moved to Sunday - then retrospectively pushed back to the Saturday, but an early kick off, so it didn’t clash with Remembrance Day on the Sunday. Nothing at all to do with ‘safety’, police or stewarding.
You’d think so but the SAG is made up of SYP, club and local emergency services, who then put a recommendation to the local council who then make the final decision and issue a safety certificate, so the club and Council are different. Fun fact: In the last season SU & SW played in the Championship together it was the most expensive derby game in England to Police. That includes all the big ones you’d naturally expect to be bigger. Fun fact 2: The Football club only pay for the Police who are in the Stadium and grounds, the rest is picked up by the general tax payer.
That's a very strange argument. If the club don't want to lay the extra costs and would rather go with the police advice that's fine, just pointing out that ultimately its the clubs call. Also when did fingering start being used as a form of punishment?
The game was actually played on the Sunday, and pushed back 30 minutes from the original noon kick off on Sky. Had it been played at Saturday 3pm, I suspect the old arrangements where away fans couldn't travel unless on an official club coach, which was escorted up the M65 by the police, would have been in force. But the idea that clubs up and down the country are just telling the police to do one, and ignoring their advice, as suggested in the post I responded to, is fanciful. Wasn't our game at Brammall Lane moved to an early kick off, albeit on the Saturday, for similar reasons last year?
