Just in now . What a wonderful sight to see the town bustling . Great job the council as done . New cinema later to see Matilda and a few jars of the Irish champagne in the market kitchen if they have any.

I love our new town centre, I work in Huddersfield and I'm always bigging it up to the lads I work with.

Yep, the choice and quality of food and retail outlets has improved markedly. Just hope this damned economic crisis doesn’t hit it too hard. Went in the Urban Burger yesterday and enjoyed it. Looking forward to using others especially when they Botanist opens. Incidentally, a guy that sits next to me at home matches sings in a band and they’ve got quite a few bookings there. A sort of resident band I suppose

Took two of my old workmates from Sheffield round last month. First time they'd been in eons. They thought it was fabulous and intend to come back again with their spouses. Said they liked it.much more than Sheffield City centre.

On the plus side I think it looks absolutely fantastic what they've done. I'm extremely proud of it and have recommended a trip into town to everyone I know.

On the bad side I was shocked to go into town at 6pm last week, just before Christmas, and found it all locked up. No bother, I tried again on Wednesday because apparently late night shopping was only for one week in Barnsley. Yet again I found half of the shops open and half locked up at 5pm. Can have as many nice looking shops as you want but if they aren't willing to put in the effort to open they won't be successful. I gave up trying to find a gift instead and drove to meadow hall where there must have been tens of thousands of people in all the OPEN shops.

Loads of my Huddersfield based friends and family prefer to go to Barnsley for a day out. We've got some catching up to do here, but you cannot have faith in Kirklees Council.

One of many reasons is the decision to get rid of the market which seems to be a big plus point for Barnsley.
Also the 80’s shopping centre, the Ridings, is half empty and for sale as the Council recently pulled out of the deal to buy it.
    Etc etc etc

Wakefield is awful really gone down hill needs some regeneration. The trinity walk area isn't too bad but the rest of it... shithole

Even in Trinity Walk it’s not easy getting new tenants for shop units.

We went out last week for the first time in years.

Absolutely loved it and it’s great to see it back to some level of form of the 1990s.

    Get away.

90s were by far the peak.

You've got Kingfishers which is one of the very best places anywhere for fish and chips, so Wakey isn't all bad.

Missus and I came into Barnsley on Friday for the first time in a year. Much improved. Ate Turkish Meze for lunch in the market kitchen. Decent food at a reasonable price cooked to order. In spite of it raining none stop we got almost everything we came for. I had ordered lots of Manx kippers to take home all vacuum packed. Only missed out on some brewing equipment as the old stall that used to sell brewing stuff no longer exists. Got dizzy driving in and out of the glassworks carpark corkscrew..bonkers!!
All a bit 'vanilla' and generic but much improved and a pleasant experience nevertheless.
