absolutely horrific. my boy is 8, and I can't even start to imagine the devastation this has caused, to family, friends and the community. just heartbreaking. incredibly sad to see people blaming the parents, who will probably be inconsolable right now.

Glad I'm not seeing what some of you seem to be picking up elsewhere or I'd lose it.
Just one poster on here laid criticism at parents. I really don't want to create an argument on a thread that has been overwhelmingly supportive and saddened at the loss.

I had a tear in my eye when I first saw it on the news. Haven't read up on the details. Don't want to set myself off again mate.

I once heard someone say after being questioned. What one wish in life would you want.
And they answered " To die before my kids"
I cannot comprehend how painful it can be to suffer the loss of a child. Especially ones so young.

Just got to count our blessings I suppose. My parents have lost two. One cot death and one still birth. Both boys. Paul and Thomas. I was too young to remember Paul as he was 8 weeks old and I was two. For Thomas I was only five and didn't really understand what was going on.

So sad to hear of some of your responses. Please accept my belated condolences. I've not experienced the loss of someone close at such a young age. A couple of young adults yes. And that is painful enough. My nephew died in his 40s and tears flow when I think of him. But nothing compared to what my brother. sister in law and his younger sisters do. He's in their thoughts every single day.
    :(

My Uncle died of cancer in his late 30’s when I was a new born. His dad (my grandad) & brother (my uncle) couldn’t speak about it 20 years later without ending up in tears & leaving the room. Can’t even begin to imagine the pain of losing your child.

Deepest sympathy goes to the families of the young victims in Solihull. Brothers Samuel Butler, six, and Finlay Butler, eight; their cousin Thomas Stewart, 11, and Jack Johnson, 10, who died after falling into Babbs Mill Lake.

If you have mini ones, give them an extra tight hug tonight, have a chat about safety around open water and ice.
