Aye seen that too. Not sure why we keep making threads on players diving, especially elite players. You'd reckon we'd be used to it by now
Wouldn't it be such a shame if Messi got injured and couldn't play in the final (if Argentina get there). The fawning over him is ridiculous
How can we expect referee's to get decisions right when 'experts' like Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Ian Wright can't grasp basic rules. That was a penalty every day of the week. To say the attacker has purposely clattered into the goalkeeper (I think it was Neville who came out with that one), despite him clearly trying to angle his body away from him is laughable.
But I don’t understand why folk want a person to fail because other folk fawn over them,, I could understand it if Messi himself was giving it the big I am.
It would be a crying shame. The best player of a generation. I've no love for Argentina, but I'd love Messi to win a world cup
Been a class act these last 3 games tho. Few of his passes today have been immense. So much for only being able to use his left foot ey?
Yet 2nd goal (which is absolutely fine btw) Alvarez then clatters the goalkeeper but that’s absolutely fine. Personally and I’m normally wrong but I don’t think it was worthy of a pen.
In both those instances, the attacker has won the ball. That's why for me, both decisions are correct. With the penalty, for me the keeper prevents the attacker from following the ball in.
It is a pity Argentina dive cheat and generally take gamesmanship to a whole new level. Today some of their play, not just Messi, hass been sublime. Croatia have no answer even with Modric. That said Argentina have benefitted from a porous Croatia defence caught several times with fast breaks from the back. At time it looks like Argentina have twice as many players on the pitch closing down Croatian players 2 and 3 on 1. Much as I wanted Croatia to win, Argentina have played them off the park and fully deserve their lead.
Well I think Neville is correct. Had the goalie come out and skittled him I would agree - penalty but he stops and puts his hands up to block the chip. During this match there was a similar outfield example that got no foul where Kovacic had his progress thwarted in a similar fashion but no foul given . There are loads of "coming together" in the outfield that result in sweet fa . Views differ, that's football but to say they can't grasp the basic rules is also laughable.
