Does it have undersoil heating because my weather app says it’s going to be -4 on Friday and Saturday!
apparently not https://footballgroundguide.com/leagues/england/league-one/kassam-stadium-oxford-united.html
Not to be pedantic, but from what I understand, having undersoil heating wouldn't prevent the game being postponed Saturday, if temperatures Saturday morning are expected to be -4. Defrosting the pitch that quickly would caused it to be waterlogged.
Let's hope there's an early decision if the temperatures do turn out to be that cold. That would be a shītter, to travel to a game that didn't happen and also miss the England match.
Not a lot of point having it then really , if the forecast is correct it looks like getting above freezing for a few hours Sat during the day hopefully it won’t affect the game
Instead of the match go to Farmfoods in the morning to do your freezer shop. That way you'll have sampled some of the atmosphere at least before watching England v France.
To answer the OP - no it doesnt have undersoil heating https://footballgroundguide.com/leagues/england/league-one/kassam-stadium-oxford-united.html but the temperature should be a couple of degrees above freezing on Friday and Saturday so if they cover it overnight it should be OK I think As everyone else says though if its going to be off call it off before everyone sets off - Calling it off at 12:00 would be a bit annoying for me and a lot annoying for anyone travelling from Tarn
Regardless of the pitch, postponements normally have more/as much to do with safe access in and around the ground….
I thought they anticipated bad weather and turned it on early to prevent it freezing in the first place??
That's before the cost of running such systems have gone through the roof with everything else. Can't blame clubs if they switch them off these days
Probably, I don't really know how it works. I just know it's not as simple as, stick it on the morning of the game and everything will be hunky dory.
I hope it is postponed. I will most probably be able to make any rearranged fixture. BTW the current Mrs DR volunteers as a meet and greet person for the COVID booster programme at the Kassam. The nearby budget hotel is currently being used to accommodate refugees.
I was talking to an Oxford ST holder this morning. Apparently those infra red lamps are being used to keep the pitch playable for Saturday. My concern is the the main stand is on the South side of the ground and therefore with the sun not gaining much of an angle in the sky this time of year. much of the pitch will remain in shadow and thus not thaw or freeze again by kick off.
