totally agree. FA have a huge opportunity here, to send a message that transcends the 4 weeks this farce will take place. or they can take the view that they would prefer to win a game of football. let's see...
I'd call them out on this. I'd love to see England win the World Cup. Even this one. But not at this expense. Let the whole team wear them and let them book every player and then again in the second match. Force them to follow up their corrupt, offensive rhetoric then lead a walk out of all the nations with a degree of integrity from FIFA and start again with a new body. It's been needed for decades.
I really don't see any difference between discrimination based on colour and discrimination based on Sexuality. They should kick off the game and then just walk off the pitch - if enough teams do it, like all protests, this would force FIFAs hand.
It seems the armband definitely won't be worn. Pathetic. The greatest thing England could do in terms of our own pride and the good of football would be, not to win the Cup, but to start the fire that burns down FIFA.
I checked the odds on Bet365, and the only player who doesn't appear (pre kick off) on the card list is Harry Kane. The rest of England & Iran players all on there
I can't remember the exact rule, but there is something about banning political messages on shirts, armbands, etc. I seem to recall we were fined for wearing poppies the other year (or threatened to be).
How many subs do we have in this World Cup? James Maddison isn’t fit to play so we should start him with the arm band on and sub him off after 60 seconds.
Wonder if this will affect the USA who have redesigned their shirts badge, from red stripes to rainbow stripes?
How can we get the England fans at the game to swap "Sweet Caroline" - which lets face it is particularly cringe to have a song about the charms of a 12 year old girl sung at games - for Tom Robinson's "Glad to be Gay"*. Broadcast live into households around the world. Throughout every game. That is the statement we should be making. *Other LGBTQ+ friendly songs are available - Billy Bragg's "Sexuality", Chumbawamba's "Homophobia" to name 2.
It would certainly be a appropriate song for the fans to sing during the game and a very catchy tune. It was certainly get the message across
Kane should take the booking. It just means that for the entire game he’ll have to pull out of tackles……..Oh, hang on,,,
That Swanson bloke ex Sky reporter now FIFA communications, his position must be untenable ,publicly defends Infantino then they do this
11/1 to score and get carded. the FA statement sees to make it pretty clear that they won't be wearing armbands though. bottlers.
