Our local Morrisons hasn't got any. Never known that before. Edit just found this in the Guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/environ...hortage-as-uk-farmers-struggle-with-avian-flu
Yeah there's been a massive chicken cull. It was on the news the other week. Farmers been granted permission to slaughter poultry early to reach demand for Christmas. I hope it makes Lamb and Beef cheaper.
Eggs and milk here are megabucks... At our local supermarket half a dozen 'Allevato alla Terra' (free range) medium eggs cost 1.60 euros up to 1.89 euros Allevato aperto( free to wander) are over 2 euros for half a dozen. Even from Lidl eggs are 1.35 euros for half a dozen . Milk is 1.69 euros per litre for semi skimmed and dearer for full fat. Irish unsalted butter (Lidl) is 3.10 for 250 grams. Italian butter is slightly cheaper but strangely always tastes like it is 'going off'. Not sure how that compares to UK, but eggs, butter and milk have always been much more expensive here than UK. Traditionally, before fridges , butter and milk would have been impractical. All milk from cows, sheep and goats, pretty much ends up as cheese. They have nearly as many different types as the French! Gin, wine whisky and tequila on the other hand.......
This is only part of the story, for some time now more and more farmers have given up poultry farming because the margins the supermarkets allowed them were so low it was no longer viable.
We have a local farmer who is selling eggs that are slightly red due to the chickens eating the pomegranates that he has in abundance
Congratulations! My local Lidl in Lincoln was out last night when I went in, and my mum says Lidl in Sleaford hasn't had any for three weeks. Obviously M&S has loads of them, at a premium price!
I hate eggs. One of those irrational things - I think the source was one bad hangover when I had a fried egg that was barely cooked, with all the white still quite runny. Never looked at one the same since.
I'm same. Although I'll eat them. Not a massive fan and has to be doused in brown sauce. Same with sausage and bacon. I don't know why I eat breakfasts to be honest because I only enjoy the sausage and bacon if it's brown and crispy and covered in sauce.
