There hasn't been one in Barnsley since 2015 - they've condensed their centres into 13 regional ones since then, nearest one to Barnsley would be Leeds. If you go on .gov.uk there'll be the usual dreaded helplines but you'll be incredibly lucky if you speak to the person that actually issued you with the letter.
Don't panic! That's the first advice i can offer. Just do things at your own pace, and online is best as you have proof. I had to go bankrupt 12 years ago; ever since, I've endured threats from them and it's been a fair old battle of wills. My accountant is astounded at their affront. Personally, i feel people panic too much when the tax man gets in touch! I was the same, but after 12 years of argy bargy i just get on with it
know what, if they want me then they know where i live and i've got nowt anyway so they're welcome to 1/2 of it
More than likely they'll take years to do absolutely nothing. They are so under resourced. Unless you think they owe you money that is. As an individual, not a Company you have no real need to reach out to them. If your tax is all paid up and you have records you can show if needed.
its a weird situation, about 10 years ago i became a " non person" i couldnt get incap benefit as i was classed as fit for work but i couldnt get jobseekers as i was classed as unfit for work ( by the same dept) because of a military disability pension ( not classed as income) so according to the system i'd no income, not on benefits, but had already paid enough in for a full state pension
I'm not a tax lawyer. The sister of a close friend of mine is. You clearly owe nothing to the state. If you have any state pension issues I'd raise the issues then & not worry about speaking to people who won't do anything even if you speak to them. If you have issues at that stage a good accountant should cost you around £300 to sort it at max. At least you'd know a professional was dealing with it. A tax lawyer would be a lot more, but unless they come for you, which I really do not see happening you won't need their advice. I'd only use them if you were out of pocket. The tax world is just like the health service & every other run down state institution. They will send out random letters that explain nothing & scare the living daylights out of you. In reality no one is monitoring any of this. The emails & letters are sent robotically. It is truly wrong. Mr Sunak & his pals won't change any of this. They will just get Rischier & Rischier...
