Has a Scottish club ever got out of the group stage since this format was introduced?

    I’ve had a look.

In the champions league era, Celtic have made the knockouts three times and Rangers once, never got past the Round of 16 though, first knockout stage.

A couple QFs late eighties in the old European cup (Aberdeen 86, Rangers 88), but the last Scottish side to make the semi was Dundee United in ‘84.

Hibs got to the semi of the first ever European Cup in 55.

No Scottish team has made the final since Celtic lost in ‘70, three years after winning it. The only two occasions a Scottish side has featured in the final.

One of the replies in the thread shows the problem Scottish teams face if the figures quoted are true
Norwich city got £100.3 million plus any parachute payment last year for finishing dead last in the premier league... the winners of the premiership last season (celtic) bagged £3.35.
I would love to see the english teams try and do anything with that sort of prize money...

I think Scotland has been a fool to itself. They've let Celtic and Rangers rule the roost for years. Everything is geared towards them. If they'd made it a more even playing field people wouldn't be bored with the competition and there'd be more interest and yes, more money.

The only times I've really tuned in to Scottish football has been when Hearts had that barnstorming start to the season under George Burghley and Aberdeen tried to challenge under Mcinness.

It was just boring waiting to watch the Old Firm games.

Rangers got very close to the final in the 92/93 season, the later stages of that were split into 2 groups of 4 where the winner of each progressed to the final with there being no other knock out matches at this stage - Rangers finished 2nd in their group missing out to Marseilles by 1 point. Rangers also knocked Leeds out in the earlier knock out rounds prior to the group stagess which was good to see

Ha ha. That was the problem I faced when I tuned in to watch the game. In the event I found myself cheering for ‘The Rangers’ for the first and only time!

I couldn’t stand the bias of the English commentators, which had been replicated in the days before in the English media. What Leeds were going to do to Rangers was nobodies business. That was never going to happen! Painful as it is for me to say it, that was a very good Rangers side.

He's a good player but he's not Kieran Tierney.
