There’s a pair of Ospreys been spottted on a regular basis in the last couple of weeks around Ecclesfield Dam. Seen some amazing photos of them. Might pop down today for a walk around that area.
Lovely stuff. I've only ever seen them at Rutland Water in England so great that there's a couple locally.
Think they have moved on not seen any reports from that area since Tuesday although there are reports of Osprey at Old moor and down the Dearne. There Africa bound now
Beautiful sight although It was in Curacao & Cancun, I think there's an Osprey seen at Edderthorpe Flash around Easter some years.
Used to go and watch them a lot in the Glaslyn valley near Porthmadog in North Wales when staying in the area, amazing birds
Won a bird spotting competition in Bridlington during lockdown, wouldnt know the difference from a spuggy to a Blackbird, looked up birds in yorkshire and around Brid, submitted a list an that was it, i'd spotted the most breeds of bird that Month, i was well chuffed, i go out nar with Grandbairns an tell em all sorts of Poo an they think im a reight wildlife expert, they've seen, Golden Eagles, [ a Big Bird ], Terradactuls, [Heron ], . Sorry in advance of the Genuine Twitchers out there.
I'll have to think abart goin darn theer wi mi gun.. Seriously, though. Don't broadcast their location too accurately, particularly if it becomes a nesting site. Numbers have recovered, but still best to leave them well alone. I've followed a live Osprey nest cam for years. It's addictive stuff. Don't even get me started on Alaskan Grizzlies waiting for the Salmon rush. I barely get owt done..
Talking to a birder on my morning walk and he was telling me that at least one of the Osprey has recently been sighted around the Sprotbrough flash area and along that stretch of the River Don, I wasn't lucky enough to see it myself best I got was a kestrel, Jay and a large flock of Lapwings
Don’t think they will be nesting in the outskirts of Sheffield too soon, but who knows? These birds are youngsters on their way to Africa for the winter along with older birds feeding up were ever they can.
'Porthmadog' -- good lad SR!! The Twitchers of Glaslyn built a 'resting-station' for Ospreys returning to Scotland from Africa - a pair 'rested' and decided to stay - the rest is history - all credit to the good folk of Glaslyn - done an amazing job - as have other nationwide groups.
They certainly are, father in law has been visiting the area since the late sixties early seventies and introduced me to it about 15 years ago and I absolutely love it sadly since illness I've not been since Christmas 2019
